I have been having issues with consecutive maps lagging to hell, with Job Threads = 7 (MaxProcessorCount=8 was suggested). It turns out MaxProcessCount = 5 would produce Job Threads = 4 and kept consistent performance across consecutive maps. This keeps my CPU usage at 50-60%, GPU usage at 98%-99%, and fps ~ 110fps with high settings. Not sure if BF1 does auto CPU detection to set the optimal Job Threads setting, but having it set in user.cfg has kept performance more consistent for me across several maps at a time.

In general, HT in a quadcore CPU is probably not strong enough to run an additional job thread. Turning off HT completely also chokes the entire system, since BF1 will use all physical cores.

It doesn't autodetect the CPU. I have a 6 core CPU (with HT) and Battlefield by default only uses 4 threads. I can force it to run more of course via .cfg modifications which I do, set to 6 working threads.

HT has always been a bit pointless for gaming but having it enabled allows the virtual cores to run the background stuff while the physical cores run the game.

I have yet to try windows 10 "Gamer" mode which in theory should shut down all non essential background apps while running a game.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

Everyone on the latest Win10 rev should have it enabled unless they've explicitly disabled it, that was my point. thumb.gif

If you're looking for A/B testing results, I've heard of some, and as long as it's a high end PC there is virtually no difference. Can't remember the source of this, sorry.

I have no issues running game on 6 of my 8 threads of 6700k. I also turned off ht to test the "is a 6600k good enough" question. I downclocked my chip to 4ghz and turned off HT, not an issue IF ypu have 16g ram. This game runs like doodoo on 8gb.

Your monitor is 60Hz and if your fps is limited in some way (either by yourself or automatic v-sync), you won't perceive issues. However, if you're rendering at >100fps on a 120Hz monitor, the issues show up as massive and frequent frame rate swings down to the 60's and back up. Without the issue, the fps stays within a small range of the average and you don't notice the framerate swings.

I can push my monitor to 80hz. I cap game at 100 to keep frame time low. Battle(non)sense said this was ok in many of his vids, you just get screen tearing. I have seen a lot of people cap it like .5 fps lower than monitor refresh rate, and they have received good results too.
