Asus X99-DELUXE/U3.1 Random boot times with Samsung 950 PRO

Hi All,

I currently have the ASUS X99-DELUXE/U3.1 motherboard and a Samsung 950 PRO 256GB SSD as my boot drive.

Although boot is fairly quick, its different each time. Sometimes it goes more or less straight to the Windows 10 welcome screen but takes awhile, other times it shows an ASUS logo with a loading circle. Its never the same each time you boot or restart the PC.

Any ideas?

I have tried the following:

Clean install of Windows 10 Pro

Disable CSM, DDR Training, Fast boot enabled, disabled all other boot devices and the issue still exists.

Boot from cold:

Restart / Normal Boot:

Many thanks

Have you tried loading optimized defaults in the BIOS and see?

Did the situation happen right from the very first day?

If there isn't much people on this forum has a solution for you, your best bet is to find an authorized ASUS Service centre nearby or their online tech support and have them troubleshoot the problem(s) for you.

Note: I have been considering upgrading to this mb... hope this is not a common issue.

P.S.: Try ask in this thread on OCN: ASUS X99 Motherboard Series - Official Support Thread (North American users only)

Why do you have the logo and such fancy stuff on start I don't know, just disable it. I don't use fast boot myself so I can easily get into UEFI without hassle when needed and the speed even a normal mid range SSD without fast boot is pretty darn fast.
You've got 11s as the best case there. Dunno how many seconds mine is but it's fast enough for me not to be slowed by it.

BTW restart is not normal boot, it's a system restart and those are always different than booting from power off mode.
You should only compare booting from power off states not restarts. During a restart the system does many other things compared just booting up from off state.
I'm not sure having the windows in the mix of the test is good either, making it as fast for the hardware as possible you're better to boot into something more simple than Win but support for fast boot etc. probably limited to Win and Lin maybe.

Yes i have upgraded and flashed the bios a few times and no change.

This motherboard doesn't like certain functions being turned on / off. Turning the logo off actually caused issues booting.

I know a restart isn't the same as a cold boot but its never the same everytime you start from cold or reboot. Boot times and loading screens vary each time it just doesn't seem very consistent and is actually a bit slower than my old EVO 840 SSD to boot and that was running in legacy mode.

Boot times from day 1 on this motherboard haven't been crazy fast. I've seen slower drives boot quicker and more consistently on a Z97 platform.

Thanks man!

When you say you were having the same issue, what issue did enabling that option resolve?

Cheers

fan speeds variable........slow and fast boot times..........over time my windows would become corrupt...........

Also put CSM on Auto. and disable fast boot

I will also mention that...........

I am getting another strange issue......by enabling that Hyper-kit.......I am testing and diagnosing still . Although it does not seem to effect my system........my BCD keeps creating a WINDOWS BOOT Manager boot option.

My suspicion is that Windows is creating a boot file on my other SSD that has windows 10 ( I am multi booting) I hope this is not the case but I think my system is booting from windows boot manger which is on the other SSD because by enabling the hyper kit it says that is will disable the M2 card.......BUT its not, the M2 card is fully accessible and is running Windows 8.1. I am getting 2500/1500 read write speeds with the 950 pro......using the magician software. I am using Easy BCD to manipulate the BCD...........and everything seems to be running perfect......fast boots........HIGH bench marks.........very little errors in Event viewer .....

I just don't understand the Boot manager........... I really think Asus has a major bug in the BIOS of the Deluxe X99 that they themselves don't understand........based on my conversations with the useless tech guys ..........

stay tuned and tell me what happens when you enable the Hper Kit Mode .......and turn on CSM = AUTO

Cheers man.

I have enabled Hyper Kit, set CSM to Auto and disabled fast boot. It seems to be fairly consistent now. Its not blowing me away with boot times but they are good (Around 16 seconds once ASUS logo shows)

It has always been a bit temperamental when booting. I have always chosen ASUS for motherboards, but they seem to have lost their quality control recently.

I Have fallen in love with the MSI Carbon Fiber Godlike Gaming X99 Motherboard coming out soon but its crazy money.

WOW.......I am sorry but i was hoping that you could not replicate the same problem / fix as me.....ONLY due to the fact that now I have lost ALL faith in ASUS!!!! ( but i am glade that i was able to help you )

This is a complete blunder on their engineering dept and total over site that a newbie as me, has uncovered what i consider a HUGE flaw in their bios. AND they only reason they have not gotten more complaints is M2 cards are somewhat new, compared to SSDs and HDs. I bet people all over the world are racking there brain like i have for 7-9 months to why their computer is not running as it should!!!

ASUS if your reading this I want a FULL refund on this POS! I am pissed right now.............You have no clue how many times I have called tech support and been lied to.........mislead and been given wrong info.

Sigh..........

Another disappointed customer.............ASUS I really hope your reading this.......because this is the beginning to your end.

Oh also.........@Darylrese look on your MOB right behind the TPU switch......and to the left side of the switch if your looking down on the board with the back of the board towards you. Its best you look with a flash light or take a picture and zoom in....... Do you see that 2 pin connector? DO you have a 2 pin connector i speak of? Its not in the manual ........its not for a LED light lol.....what i was told by ASUS tech......the dam LED light is on the board right next to the TPU switch.

Anyways.........do you have any clue what that 2 pin connector is for? I already had to track down the thermal pin connector which is not in the manual either. But this 2 pin is got me puzzled and ASUS tech support keeps saying they will have to get back in touch with me..........BECAUSE THEY DON'T KNOW!! lol duh........

I'll take a look tonight mate and let you know.

On the whole, the board has been OK. I had to RMA the first one i got as it had lots of stability and boot issues. This one the boot issues styarted a few months in. Generally it would say overclocking failed or just boot to BIOS or not POST atall but a restart or reset of BIOS would sort it.

Now, on Friday i tried EVERYTHING and couldn't get it to boot. Flashed and reset BIOS atleast 5 times, reseated everything, tried different hard drives and just either wouldn't POST or did then BSOD before it even attempted to boot into Windows. I turned it off at the wall for about 12hrs tried again the next day and it started working again. Its been OK since so far.

Its just not the quality i come to expect from ASUS and its the first negative experience i have had with one of their boards. The QC of their monitors is shocking and i no longer buy their GPU's after the GTX 670 TOP issues where 'binned' GPU's actually overclocked worse than their normal one.

My favorite IT brand going down the pan makes me really sad.

MSI seems to have come a long way recently, whereas in the past i havent even given them a second thought.

Reviews on NewEgg for this board are not great so i assume the hardware or BIOS is a bit messed up on all of them

Hey man to give you an update....

Mine is now showing a red light against 'MEMOK' and doesnt POST.

BUT if you hit the reset switch, it comes on straight away and boots.

It has also been getting stuck on 'Storage Device' red light too. Once it has booted its 100% stable but all these boot issues are really silly.

My only boot option is Windows Boot Manager too.

Any luck with yours?

I've had boot issues with my X99-A as well. In fact the board just failed a week ago. It's now stuck on the cpu_led light.

I inspected the board and found something had burned on it near the PCIEX 16_1 slot. WTH! Really disappointed. I had no issues with my previous ASUS boards. I'll definitely be buying another brand if my RMA is denied.

I hope you can get your issue resolved.
