NVIDIA and Samsung have agreed to settle all pending intellectual property litigation between the two companies, NVIDIA announced today. The agreement will lead to the immediate dismissal of all pending IP litigation in U.S. district courts, the U.S. International Trade Commission and the U.S. Patent Office between the companies. The settlement includes the licensing of a small number of patents by each company to the other, but no broad cross-licensing of patents or other compensation. Further details of the agreement are not being disclosed
Nvidia made nice so they can use Big Sammy's fabs. Considering that Samsung has one of the most advanced chip foundries on the planet, it was a wise move.

I believe it was announced that TSMC will continue making chips for Nvidia for the Pascal generation. If I had to guess, Samsung wants a slice of the pie on the next generation. It's possible that Nvidia also realized that their lawsuits were probably not going to be won, while Samsung may have had some legitimate claims. Basically, if both companies settle, they each have something to gain, and very little to lose.
Nvidia played hard and Samsung showed off muscle. If I had to guess by the fact that Nvidia lost a huge deal of their claims back in October and December, Samsung (and Qualcomm) got way more on their way than Nvidia.
Nvidia really screwed up with this lawsuit and their antitrust lawsuit against Qualcomm in the EU seems to share the same fate.

The qualcomm one has way more merit. Legal precedence is what wins court cases and Qualcomm has lost antitrust cases for it's business practices as was the case in China. In addition, independently of Nvidia, the EU has slapped an antitrust charges against Qualcomm. Similarly the USA and South korea have slapped similar charges to Qualcomm.
More money is definitely coming out of Qualcomms pockets, whether some goes to Nvidia is uncertain but I would give this case a much better chance because of earlier charges and ungoing investigations. Basically, if Qualcomm loses the south korea one and the USA one, well it's a pretty easy case for Nvidia.
In the EU you can't claim money back when a company is charged for antitrust practices. AMD didn't see a single euro out of Intel. When a telecom from my country was found guilty of abusing its dominant position customers and other telecoms didn't get anything. In fact fines are so low and take so long that it is worth to screw around all you can to wipe out the competition.
If anything Nvidia is threatening Qualcomm with the EU lawsuit to settle in the USA.
