I have headphones connected to the sound card in the back.

I took out the soundcard and used the onboard audio, the coil whine sound is gone but now there's a different pitched sound coming from somewhere.
I don't have any speakers so I'm not sure, maybe it's coming from the motherboard speaker, the same one that does the post beep.

Edit: the powersupply is pretty old actually, maybe it's the cause. It's some Thermaltake Toughpower XT TPX-775M from 2010.

Do you have any Microphone settings in your soundcard? like this: http://i.imgur.com/iBNDgI6.png

Because if plugging it in the back didn't do the job for me, I had to mute "Microphone FP" I'm using the creative X-FI titanium.

I had that too, its just coil whine from the mobo/gpu, it normally happens when you have certain hardware configurations and very high fps, the only thing you can do about it is change those parts, or tweak some bios settings

IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH YOUR SOUND CARD/SPEAKERS/HEADPHONES

Just noticed this problem after getting some noise canceling headphones. I changed the polling rate on my mouse from 1000 Hz to 500 Hz, and the problem disappeared. I checked, and this worked with 2 other mice I own. Hope this helps. smile.gif

That reminds me of an issue I was having with my ASUS vg248qe monitor. for some reason there was a whining noise that came from my monitor speakers whenever I moved my mouse, so I just ended up turning off the monitor speakers entirely.

Mine does that too, someone above mentioned dropping polling rate to 500hz eliminates it, probably on a that has a medium amount of noise, otherwise dropping to 125hz or even 250hz should get rid it it completely on a quiet pc.
