Very good question and no I do not know if that can be used outside of a recent dell. I wouldn't take the risk myself. In fact, I would assume it only works on modern EFI motherboards. Now maybe, just maybe something like Clover would see it? lol

Yeah, saw the compatibility issue too after posting, updated the link with one that doesn't do any raid and is just a dummy passthrough like most. Clover should be able to do a software raid on those, right? Gonna be using Clover for my hackintosh boot anyway, so if I can use 2x256Gb drives in raid 0 for that instead of a single 512 that would be a plus.

Edit:
These are supposed to be comming out soon, worth a shot to try it out for that price I guess. Wanted to do some kind of active cooling for the M.2 anyway.

OMG, what the heck? Am I to believe that card would allow 4 NVMe SSD's to occupy just one x16 slot? I thought that was considered impossible without some sort of controller? thumb.gif

Thanks. I was asking in the other thread (960 Pro thread) to see if anyone knows anything about this and sure enough someone does and told me it works perfectly to allow a single system to see all drives as independent. That is crazy crazy goodness to say the least.

Sweet, should be all set to do the software raid with Clover on OSX then. Good thing you brought up Clover too, didn't even realize that was a thing. I was going to use Chameleon for my OSX boot, but Clover is a much better option.
Yeah but I don't know how to boot raid using Clover. I know you could install an OS and boot that OS via clover, and then use software raid of course. Clover has been the go to efi bootloader for a long time now and it was originally based on DUET. It is also mostly geared towards OSX, however since it's a efi bootloader it can see and boot any OS on any medium. With some research you can find practically any setting to customize it to your liking, including dual and triple booting Linux, Mac and windows. It's definitely brought new life to my old machine. I don't even have SATA devices in my rig any more lol.

I would love to have one m.2 device for Linux, one for Windows and two for local storage and apps, maybe in software raid. Since Linux and Windows can't share software raid I probably won't be doing the latter. These are fast enough as is.

Thanks for sharing that adapter find. I been wanting to see something like this for a while now. Never thought it was possible though until now. Thanks

Np, glad I could help, your info on Clover and the 950 has helped me out a lot.

OSX has it's own built in software raid, and I read as long as you have clover on all the array drives that it has no problem booting.

Gonna have to pick up a couple more 950/951s once the adapter ships. Looks like the old x58 ain't going anywhere anytime soon.

Can Windows see the 960/961 once it boots up without UEFI/Clover? Would be nice to get 1tb or 2tb in a single drive for storage.

If you run Windows on say a normal sata device, but then have one of the 960 or 961 as a secondary storage device, then yes Windows will see it no problem and even software raid would be possible. Clover comes in handy if I want to boot Windows in UEFI mode from Clover, since my BIOS can not see NVMe devices natively. All I do is install Clover to a small usb drive, boot to clover, go into the UEFI Shell64, then insert the normal Windows 10 usb install media, type "fs2:\efi\boot\bootx64.efi" and the Windows 10 starts installing almost instantly to the NVMe device. Once it is done installing, and you reboot that is when Clover see's your Windows 10 boot media on the NVMe device and offers it to you as a bootable OS. It really is pretty simple. You can even set it up to not even show the Clover UI and it will boot windows as if nothing else was in the way, albeit with a slight 5 seconds added to the entire process. I have gotten used to the extra time because booting to the NVMe device is far more important to me then a few extra seconds.

The only problem I have is just how awful Windows is. I just installed 1709 fresh and even Edge is utterly broken and freezes instantly. I had to use another computer just to download drivers and chrome and install from a USB. I have no problems with Linux but Windows takes forever to fix or update, plus all it does is spy on me. As far as I am concerned Microsoft has completely lost their way and the world would be far far better without them. Wish I could get my thousands of dollars I spent on Microsoft over the years back... lol but that will never happen. Oh well...

Lets see how quickly this new 1709 breaks, probably by the end of the week I am sure... thumb.gif

Quick boot times have saved my butt too many times with things like recovering from crashes durring competetive gaming where there is a reconnect timer, so I want to avoid adding to my boot time with things like Clover for my Windows boot, will just use the Windows bootloader to boot to Clover for OSX and Grub2 for Ubuntu.

Now I'm just split on how to best utilize all 4 slots with 950/nvme/RAID combos...

And yeah, I'm not touching Windows 10 with a ten foot pole, maybe once the community has had it's hands on it long enough to purge it of all the spyware and other issues. If Micorsoft doesn't get it's **** together by Windows 11, or whatever the next iteration will be called, I'm just gonna migrate to Linux/OSX and only keep W7 around for gaming.
