guys, I need some advice here. I have i5 6400 and asus z-170 pro-gaming motherboard. I used the faq from overclocking.guide step by step and managed to hit 4.6 GHz. It worked fine for about 2 weeks, then I got "overclocking failed" message. I reset to default, started all from scratch but lowered it to 4.3. Again, 2 weeks of good work and then again I have this message. Yesterday I set it up to 3.8 Ghz and tested in Linx. Temperature is no more that 40 degrees and I got about 50 Gflops. Then I decide to go back to default and I got 150 Gflops! So it looks like default setting works faster than overclocked ones? I still yet to use another CPU test though. Also I was monitoring asus cpu-z utility and saw that during linx test CPU was working at 3.3 GHz.

I set the voltage = 1.32-1.4 , DRAM frequency to about 2300 (I have corsair vengeance with 2333 stock) and change BCLK. So can somebody explain to me why my computer sometimes fail to work in overclocked mode? How important are this linx's Gflops?

I recently got a QHQG ES and a MSI z170m mortar. I've had trouble getting past 3.3-3.4ghz,anything higher than this seems to want a ton of voltage, while 3.4ghz is fine with ~1.180V I'm having a weird issue where the FSB will spike to something like 250 from 140,I haven't seen this happen when the cpu is under load but I assume this could be causing some stability issues when it jumps to 5.4ghz.I went ahead and delidded the chip to help with temps a bit.I should mention I've been testing with igpu,so this may also be limiting me.Here's my bios settings,if anyone has recommendations of what to tweak I'd appreciate it.

I read on one of the previous post that some versions of the ES will cease to function with high BLCK. So i dont know if this problem is isolated to just the QHQG models or not. Maybe each model works differently but i cannot say since i haven't received mine yet.

Try disabling Eist/C1 etc and drop Uncore. Board should do ~170 Bclk pretty easy. iGPU had issues on A0 steppings with high Bclk. U might need to boost other voltages not just CPU VC.

I haven't been able to test anything out for awhile, finally got around to it,I believe the issue i'm having is the motherboard.I seem to be hitting a wall at 145-150 base clock. This is with my multiplier as low as 8x.

Edit-found a GIGABYTE GA-Z170XP-SLI on ebay for $46,going to see if it does any better.

Some guy in our skylake es topic have same problem with msi motherboard. He finish with a nonk bios and saying this is helping him some. But my fellow from our polish forum waiting for you review of oc in that gigabyte motherbord smile.gif Respond when you recive it wink.gif. Mine is qhqg and i finish with 4.0 ghz on 1.35v. I'm using it from january first on nonk and about 2 months with normal newest bios and its working fine with igpu on maximus viii hero. The others have some problems with gh8f but they puted it's on cheap mb. One have problem with ht and other in puting all 4 banks of memory and set xmp. Do you have some problems with start on pcie 3.0? In our hot :E topic is some of people is worry about that...in deflaut is reading only 2.0 in gpuz when you click on that and start render.one guy don't even have that oportunity to set it in 3.0 whitout instant crash/bsod.Whats is yours other expirance with that es?

I'll be sure to update with results once it's here, hopefully by the end of the week.,I've only got 2x4gb kit of ram and the Gigabyte board has pin damage so 2 ram slots are broken so i can't test that.I had gpuz show my gpu as PCIE 3.0x 16 @ 1.1 after render test it shows correctly, that only happened on first boot I believe. If i get good results from the gigabyte board i may flash the MSI board to non-k bios and test that.

I got the new board today,I set multiplier to x10 and was able to set base clock up to 180 without changing any other settings,a hell of a lot better than my MSI board that could hardly handle 140.I haven't done any actually overclocking on it just yet, will definitely work on it this weekend.
