[Build Log] Arcane Sanctum

Builder
This will be my second water cooled PC. While I was happy with my Primo build, I really want to push the limits of water cooling with this project. I've been raiding as a mage in WoW since Burning Crusade, which has inspired the theme for Arcane Sanctum.

Current Build - January 2014
Phanteks Enthoo Primo
Intel i5 4670k
ASUS Maximus VI Formula
ASUS GTX 780 Ti
Corsair AX860i
EK Coolstream RAD XTC 280
EK Coolstream RAD XTX 480
EK Supremacy Clean Nickel CPU Block
EK FC780 GTX Ti Nickel GPU Block
EK D5 X-Top Acetal
Scythe Gentle Typhoon 120mm x4
Phanteks PH-F140SP x7
Koolance QD3 Quick Disconnects - Black x2 (drain/fill)
EK Black Nickel compression fittings

Soft tubing, a single GPU, and a single watercooling loop. Not bad, but I'm ready to up the ante with Arcane Sanctum.

I'll have to update this post as I have more time, but here's a teaser some of the components that will be going into this build.

Arcane Sanctum
Design Considerations
Colour Scheme, I want the flexibility to adjust my colour scheme with my fluid selections and/or the RGB lights. Over the two years I've had my Primo build I've changed the colour scheme many times, and having the red/black on my hardware has restricted the combinations I've been able to set. For this reason, I'm setting a conservative understated colour theme with my hardware that will be black/gunmetal/white.

Dust Control, I plan to filter all of my intake fans with something simple to clean, and maintain positive pressure (with empirically tested profiles). I haven't yet decided how I will filter the fans, but as soon as I have received the Caselabs case I should be able to determine how simple removing the front radiator panel to access fan-mounted filters would be, and go from there.

Filling, I had a single port top with my Primo build and found I would simply remove the cap and tilt the reservoir out of my case to pour directly from a gallon jug of distilled water to flush/fill. With glass tubing this won't be possible, and so I've opted for a three-port top to simplify filling the loops.

Draining, I will try out the Bitspower Exhaust fittings on the top ports of my 480mm top mounted radiators. These will be accessible with the top cover removed. If they don't work out as I'd like, I may install 90 degree fittings with Quick Disconnects and a length of tubing for atmospheric pressure to the top of the loop when draining. Drain valves will be installed at the bottom of the loop (the drain ports on the Alphacool 360s).

Tubing, 90 deg perpendicular runs only, with the exception of the memory to the monoblock (too crowded to be clean otherwise). I want to show off the glass tubing, but not be too crowded.

Dual Loops, One loop for the GPUs, and a second for the Monoblock & memory.

PC Components
Case - Caselabs Magnum THW10
CPU - Intel x99 Broadwell-E, i7 6850k 4.6GHz (pre-binned by Silicon Lottery)
Memory - 8x4GB DDR4-19200 (2400 MHz) G Skill Ripjaws 4
GPU - GTX1080s, currently pre-ordered two MSI Gaming Xs, but no committment yet
PSU - Corsair AX1500i

Monitors - Wall Mounted 3x2 setup. 3x ROG Swift PG27AQs in Surround (lower level), 3x Dell U2412Ms (upper level).
Monitor Stand - WSGF Ultimate, I already had a Wall-Mounted 1-over-3, so I only needed the XL upgrade kit for the 27" ROGs.
Cables, custom from IceMods

Water Cooling Components
CPU or Motherboard Monoblock - TBD, likely EK Plexi/Nickel (transparent)
GPU Blocks - TBD, likely EK Plexi/Nickel (transparent)

While the performance gains of 3-way have never really been there for real-world applications, benchmarking and aesthetics are still there with the news today. I'll have to make a call one way or the other. 3-way and 4-way can be enabled by requesting an Enthusiast Key from nVidia.

With the Rampage V Edition 10 being what I was hoping for, I'll be moving on to ordering components as they become available.

Community input would be appreciated, so thanks in advance! Looking at memory, I'm trying to land on an ideal speed for this build.

Considering:
- I will be running multiple GPUs and an M.2 Samsung 950 Pro
- Memory speed doesn't seem to have a notable real-world impact above 2666 MHz, and I'm more concerned with maximizing my overclock on my CPU
- XMP profiles for 2666 MHz and above may change BCLK to 125 MHz.

I'm leaning towards the DDR4-19200 kit at 2400 MHz to preserve speeds & stability on my 950. Thoughts? Would a manually adjusted 100 BCLK 2666 MHz kit offer better value? What about the 3200 MHz (may also have 100 MHz BCLK with XMP, but higher voltage)?

Shipments are on the way and we should start to receive boxes as early as end of this week.

Wait, so it's not even a hardware limitation?
So you have to buy the 3 and 4 way as a DLC? (EDIT: do you need a key for each card as well? rolleyes.gif )

I'm shedding tears out of laughter biggrin.gif

Want my input?

Wait for Vega.
950 Pro & 3000-ish memory seems the way to go. The price difference between 3.2 and 2.66 is very small and you don't seem to care about bang/buck anyway -> Go for at least 3GHz RAM.

xioros, I wasn't at the nVidia launch event and can only speculate if the Enthusiast Keys will be paid DLC (though I would suspect not). Will it be enough to deter a would-be 3-way SLI enthusiast? We'll have to see. If you look at anyone who built a 3- or 4-way SLI Titan X build they aren't doing it for its broad support or performance per dollar.

As to my Samsung 950/memory concerns, there are reported issues of M.2 users having their 950s running at PCIe 2.0 when their BCLK isn't at 100 MHz (along with reports of stuttering with multi GPU configs). With a 3000 MHz XMP, it would set to 125, which could cause complications without any added benefits. I could likely manually tweak the memory to run at 3000 MHz with a 100 BCLK, but I'd rather have a stable kit to allow a better clock on my 6950x.

I'm not really a proponent of waiting for non-imminent tech. By the time we wait for Vega to hit the shelves, the Titan XYZ^2 or the Tis will be around the corner, and this cylce never really ends. There's nothing stopping me from upgrading down the road if the benefits are compelling enough to do so.

I didn't know that. Since you're running it in a R5E: use an adapter and run it on PCIe 3.0 from the CPU (with an adapter)? You're crippling it on PCIe 2.0.
That said, still get some high-end memory. If it causes issues at 3GHz, just underclock it to 2666MHz?
