My motherboard has a x16 pcie 3.0
It has a inbuilt Intel hd 530 skylake graphics card so I would like one better than this.
Also hopefully better than my older nvidia GeForce 8600 gt fatal1ty that has died.
My power supply has a 6+2 pin connector for the gpu.
Can anyone recommend a decent budget gpu. Hopefully not much more than £50.
I would go with a 7850/7870 or something like that. You can find them super cheap (although there are always the real winners wanting like $200 for them, lol) and much more powerful than your old 8800GT.
I've been looking at this too, trying to find a replacement for my trusty old 5830 Xtreme ... which is still working well!, but I just fancy something newer ...
It's a bit tricky for about £50 ... but currently I'd say either a GTX 750 ti or maybe an R7 240?
Any other thoughts anybody ...?
Hmm ... quick edit! I just plugged in my old HD 6950 which had been misbehaving from a couple of years ago (with red lines and such all over the screen!)
a quick reboot and install of drivers seems to have fixed it, so maybe I'll stick with that!

With the 960T? My 960T is paired with a 7950 Which i bought for about $100. There are newer more efficient ones that are as fast if not a bit faster than the 7950 with better features too.
My cpu at 3.8GHz handles the 7950 just fine. Currently re-playing FO4 using 1080 and it is flawless.
If you can unlock yours to six core, then you can even match it with a RX 480.
@op, my 290s are paird with an intel Z77 system for about three years now.
Yes, got the 6 cores unlocked and running nicely with the HD 6950 now, just running a few benchies and see what happens .. !
This rig is massively over-powered for what I use it for, still it's all good fun!
Cheers!!
