I'm trying to undervolt my GPU via Afterburner to 1.063V @ 2153Mhz but when temps exceed 60C, my GPU downclocks to 196Mhz @ 1.025V range. Here is my frequency curve.

What am I doing wrong? I have power and temp limit at 120 and 92 respectively (un-linked).

Also, I've tried to OC to 2200Mhz using the curve but with 1.1V and instead my GPU locks to 2000Mhz. Why is this?

thats normal, That would be GPU Boost 3.0 throttling you. mine does it too unless i crank up the fans to stay under 63C

Why does it throttle at 63C? That's a lot of headroom from the 92C temp limit I set. Anyway to change the throttle range of GPU Boost 3.0? If not, is there another to undervolt and OC while keeping downclocking and downvolting?

Boost 3.0 assumes the power curve in the graph is relatively close to the max Voltage/Speed your card can actually achieve within a standard temperature range. When you move your values off too far off your realistic performance path, Boost 3.0 takes you at your word and, believing it's taking prudent action, downclocks your card at (Temp+X) points across the curve. It's going to do this even if the card could easily achieve that speed on the stock curve. These are soft points and they act as though they are based not on temperature, but on temperature change.

In my experience, if you make your jump from normal curve to max curve too great or too small, your performance really takes a hit.

Have you ever run a benchmark like Heaven in an open window and enabled the Afterburner power curve graph and the hardware monitor at the same time? You can watch the algorithm at work as Boost attempts to find an acceptable Voltage/Temp/MHz point at which to run. You an modify your curve in real time if you're careful and, like changing a golf swing, the result is often the exact opposite of what you intended. I think you will find experimenting in that environment most instructive.

Remember: Some cards cannot do high speeds. And you can reach a point where higher speed does not = higher fps.

I'm not sure but i experienced this on my 1070 and my 1080.

Hi guys, Someone has the bios of MSI GTX 1080 gaming x (OC mode by default), already tried to search and can not find anywhere.

The bios in question is this: https://www.techpowerup.com/223571/techpowerup-impact-msi-issues-oc-mode-by-default-bioses

Thanks in advance

Finally had time to install my new EVGA GTX 1080 FTW2 that i got yesterday (Click to show)

And yes i know the the machine is a bit dusty so you dont need to tell me i know!
Really hope this card actually works unlike my Gigabyte GTX 1070 Xtreme Gaming which was broken.

Have not had time to really test it yet but the few test i already ran shows numbers that are about 30% higher then my broken GTX 1070 in 1440P
Going to run all the benchmarks that i have once i get bigger SSD.

I have a MSI GTX 1080 Gaming X and wanted to do the same thing. I was never able to find that BIOS, though I suppose it exists in my card (and yours) as the unobtainable OC BIOS. If your stock Gaming X BIOS shows a Default Clock of 1683 in GPU-Z, you're running the original gaming BIOS mentioned in the article. If it's 1709, your card is already upgraded and the article is irrelevant. There are a number of BIOSs available with Default clocks above that which means they're more aggressive than both those BIOSs:

Tech Power Up MSI GTX 1080 Gaming X Bios List

If you want to upgrade your BIOS, research those in that list for your desired properties. Default clock, memory speeds, max power, etc. I eventually upgraded mine to a Gaming Z OC BIOS. cool.gif

Use GPU-Z to back you BIOS up and store it in a safe place before doing any flashing!

Good luck.
