you couldn't keep it at 2100 without water? maybe i got lucky, if i set it to 2100 it stays 2100 no matter what temp or load.

I would get to 2088 on air, I didn't really mess with the voltage since I didn't want to kill it (never got the thermal pad update on this one - ACX version SC not ICX SC2).

You won't kill a card going within Voltage slider on any of the major overclocking apps (MSI Afterburner / EVGA Precision X)

The limit is 1.093v (with voltage slider at 100%) and 1.043v (with slider at 0% or default).

53 milli volts ++ is quite safe-- even for long-term use :-)

In the case of the series of card I have there was a greater chance of an issue happening due to heat etc - guess people forgot about the SC & FTW's catching on fire. .

That issue wasn't related to the Thermal Mod issue (two different issues).. the "press" made an awful mess of that; and made two separate issues into one issue....

the catching fire was the usual 1% manufacturing flaw (you could have with any manufacturer)

The thermal mod thing issue was also blown totally out of proportion because of it, which wasn't fair on EVGA at all (or some of its worried customers)

If it's 1709, your card is already upgraded and the article is irrelevant. There are a number of BIOSs available with Default clocks above that which means they're more aggressive than both those BIOSs:

Tech Power Up MSI GTX 1080 Gaming X Bios List

If you want to upgrade your BIOS, research those in that list for your desired properties. Default clock, memory speeds, max power, etc. I eventually upgraded mine to a Gaming Z OC BIOS. cool.gif

Use GPU-Z to back you BIOS up and store it in a safe place before doing any flashing!

Good luck.

Hi thanks for your answer, my bios is this: https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/183841/msi-gtx1080-8192-160527

But however is there a newer version, is it safe to flash this bios?
Version 1709: https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/184799/msi-gtx1080-8192-160606

I do not want to flash the gaming z bios because my first graphics card burned after 3 days of use, it could be a graphic card defect but I do not want to risk it again.

Hi thanks for your answer, my bios is this: https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/183841/msi-gtx1080-8192-160527

But however is there a newer version, is it safe to flash this bios?
Version 1709: https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/184799/msi-gtx1080-8192-160606

I do not want to flash the gaming z bios because my first graphics card burned after 3 days of use , it could be a graphic card defect but I do not want to risk it again.

Looks like that will work just fine. Not telling you to do it, mind you. Even flashing the world's most perfect BIOS can go utterly wrong. You, like everyone, flash at your own risk. skull.gif

If your last card burned? Whichever BIOS you choose, remember that when pushed these cards generate huge amounts of heat. Always create a more aggressive custom curve and if you plan to overclock it at all, add more fan - card and case, especially while gaming or benching. On the MSI, they'll still be pretty quiet up to 85%.

I've run the Gaming Z BIOS since I got the card. Never a problem.
