Would going single 1080 FTW2 smooth out my gaming in BF1 at 1440P ~144Hz?

Currently my setup gets me about 60-100 FPS in BF1 at 1440P with DX12 and settings on High on the most demanding MP maps.

Opinions?

not quite apples to apples.
but my 1080 gets me between 90-144 FPS @ 2560*1080 on DX11 highest detail settings
so 75% of your pixel count.
so taking 25% off my numbers is
68-108 FPS
I'm sure my quick and dirty math inst a nice conversion but it looks like it wouldn't net you much benefit to me.
but, if someone with that actual screen size and a 1080 would chime in then obviously take their opinion over mine.

as far as smoothing, im sure that might be a difference. as one card should 10/10 times perform better than 2. but is smoothing alone enough to justify the price?

I can agree with the above.

Another thing to take into consideration is power usage. Maxwell's aren't as efficient as Pascal. They also run a bit warmer than most AIB 1080's. One card is usually better than two, especially if you play a lot of different games(no SLI profiles/micro-stuttering/etc).

I would hang on and see what the 1070ti offers. Perhaps prices will go down on the 1080's as well. They may outperform the 1080. Who knows?

I just got my 1080 and haven't really played many games yet. I can say, personally, DX12 is horrible. It does OK in games that are optimized(which BF1 is I believe). Others it performs worse in DX12, depends on the developers, and honestly, some are slow or lazy about optimizing it.

Thanks, my dudes. I was planning on waiting, but didn't want to wait so long for the 980s/ 4670K to lose their value with all of the new GPU and CPU news.

I'll wait until the end of October/ beginning of November to make my final decision. A 1070ti is definitely an option that is on the table for me.

It's supposed to release around the 20th or so I think.

I went ahead with the 1080 thinking the 1070ti will probably be hard to come by, and the prices might higher due to demand.

I had just sold a RX480, so that offset the cost for my 1080. wink.gif

The 4670k should be fine for quite a while really. There aren't that many games that use more cores yet. BF1 will take advantage of them though. I noticed that going from my i7-4770k to the Ryzen 5 1600. It was loading up my i7 pretty well most of the time(75-80% maybe). I haven't been gaming much, but if my memory is correct, with the R5, it may hit 50-60% on a few cores from time to time.

Yeah I currently have a 4790K. It gets loaded around 50% on most cores, while loading the map it will jump up a bit to around 70%.

I believe the 1070 TI is actually being released on Oct. 26th.

just clock it to x+ speeds, add 500 in AB and see if it can do it. at least 450.

A simple question for you guys. I recently started getting into folding on this setup, and noticed something insane. I know it depends on what string of work you are offered, if you are keyed vice not keyed, etc.

I was unkeyed and was gettign 125k PPD on GPU. I got a passkey and restarted after putting in the info. I am now rolling at 875k PPD on GPU alone. about 950k for total system. Is this insane?

Updated to reflect points I am seeing now.

Glad to see that CPU is treating you well smile.gif.

My GFs rig is a i5 and 1070 and does really decent at 1440p, though she doesn't play BF1. I think the 1080 is a great card for 16:9 1440p, if not one of the best for that res. Obviously the TXP/TXp/1080Ti are as well, but you wouldn't be dissatisfied.

However, going from 2x980s that are working well for you with no issues? You'll see a slight performance hit in some games probably with a single 1080. I think your ultimate upgrade path would be 2x1080 or the eventual Ti successor....I think your 980s would hold up well until that happens, however.

On BF1, which do you prefer to overclock when playing a BF1? Core or Memory?
