Is the SLI HB Bridge essential?

Not sure these were good tests. They should test games which run slow @4K like Witcher 3 or bandwidth hogs like Doom. Also, why check whether non-SLI enabled games would magically run with HB-bridges ?!?

Lower your expectations, as that won't happen. The bridge has zero effect on gpu usage or frame rates.

.. still not sure if I should be using Gigabyte Extreme Engine or the AfterBurner to OC the G1 .. guess I'll try AfterBurner first

From what I can tell, you can essentially set an LED color (and apply effect as needed/wanted) if you want and then disable/uninstall the program. You can then use something that isn't as atrocious, clunky or dysfunctional to do the actual important stuff biggrin.gif.

You had 2 bridge hooked up im still using one so im sure i will see difference regardless if it any different than two normal bridges im starved for bandwidth with only one. Granted it has almost no effect on performance i just want my usage back to normal

The techpowerup SLI review is bad : no frametimes and no subjective feeling about smoothness. With such a review, I don't know if the SLI-HB bridge improves the gaming experience.

so its for enthuasiasts/water-cooling only

My 1520 MHz 980Ti Lightnings put out more heat than a 1080 and the fans were virtually silent doing so.

Correct, in theory really only stutters/spikes should be minimized at higher resolutions and FPS. This is due to all the frames being sent over the HB SLI bridge and not spliced together via the SLI bridge and PCI-E bridge which have slightly different traffic/speeds/delays.

Heck, 4K @ 60 Hz may not see much of a benefit. But I would surely expect that 4K @ 120 Hz and 5K at 60 Hz would, in addition to surround. That's where I ran into my 8x vs 16x PCI-E 3.0 limitations.
