X is factory overclocked, Non-X is not. Both are the same otherwise. Might as well get the Non-X as it is slightly cheaper.

Not every game/application benefits much from a 1080 over a 980 Ti/Titan X.

yes... but 2.0 x8 will affect concurrent bandwidth across the PCIE bus. you'll loose a FPS compared to 3.0 x16, The high bandwidth bridge can conpensate some, but not much. Frankly, I doubt you would notice a difference gaming at 150FPS vs 130FPS. wink.gif

at that resolution the video ram is in play. If you DO game at 5K with one card, wait for the full die (P100), not the Ti. thumb.gif

yeh maybe the titan X runs close to the 1080 but other games the 1080 will destory it..

coming from a guy who recently had a titan x underwater @ 1470/8000 a kingpin @ 1500 1070 @ 2176 and now a 1080 @ 2152 lol

the kingpin/ titan x is faster in BF4 than the 1070 overclocked but in games like projects cars a 1500mhz kingpin matched exactly a 1070 overclocked in project cars

plus overall my loop runs cooler, the 1080 on the other hand is faster albeit by a little in bf4 but need all the extra performance @ 3440 tongue.gif

the titan x would get very hot with a flashed bios and unlimited PL compared to this 1080, considering im only running GPU/CPU off a single 240mm I need the cooler stuff smile.gif

Well, at Auto (medium) it runs at 60 and above FPS. At Ultra 1440 runs at 75-90, at high it runs at 90-110. Moving from 1280MHz to 1470MHz got me a small bost to 95-100 and 100-130 max.
1080 @ 2.1ish (2050-2120) gives me additional small boost like moving it to 110-120 and 120-145. Most other games have similar effect. Seems like 1080 really adds nothing significant.

I'm talking about MSI 1080...

Yes, I know. But so many benchmarks in reviews show much better results and more gain that I really hoped we'd get at least some boost there.

Too bad... now looking to maybe try if going FE and AIO would give me some ability to go past 2-2.1GHz...

not until the power ceiling is removed.

Here is the "flicker" sound of the coil whine while running Heaven. Fans and pumps are off so that's all the 1080s. The beeping at the end is me brining the pumps on with a warning that they haven't spun up yet.

I was wondering if 2 bridges had the same effect. Not surprised if they do.

3930k's have 40 PCIE Lanes....

You will get full 16x links on both cards. Also.... my 3930k ran PCIE 3.0 just fine. Try the tool from Nvidia to set PCIE to 3.0 on X79 boards.

Test without overclocks. Some chips cannot do it.

In the end, you should have 2 GPU's with 16x 3.0 links. Hopefully.

Hey guys, I need some advise.

A local shop just got the FE and G1 in stock and I'm not sure which one to get. The G1 is some 20$ cheaper, but it's also really ugly. I prefer the looks of the reference design.

So my questions are... is the FE that bad as most people say when it comes to noise and thermal performance vs the aftermarket cards like the G1? What about throttling? Can one keep a stable 2000+ MHz at acceptable noise levels?

I kind of like the STRIX, but it's not available yet and I'm not that good at waiting redface.gif Also, most likely will be more expensive than these two (maybe even 50$ above the FE) so not sure it's worth it.

I have an FE and it does 2050mhz stable (no clock fluctuations) at 80% fan. Haven't tested it lower fan wise.

Not too loud for me, keeps the card around 65c-70c loaded.

I went with FE because the difference this time around is nil. Maybe 50mhz or so it seems.

Hacked BIOSES will be released for FE first as well, positive of that.
