Now, I'm getting nice fatty paycheck tomorrow and I'm not sure if I should forget about EVGA and buy that GeForce card from Best Buy?

Right now, I have 970 in my system and I always want to have 1080 to set everything at max at 1440p and be happy.

What do yall think?

You're in the exact same position I'm in, except I'm looking for surround support instead. The FTW looks cheaper (at least I got it cheaper) and has more goodies, but I guess it comes down to how much patience you have. Something else to keep in mind is the FTW has had bad reviews so far as overclocking goes, however I'm not sure how much of that is incompetence on the part of reviewers or drawing a bad card in the silicon lottery.

I ended up snagging a Zotac 1080 AMP for $640 and just installed it today. Much better load noise levels and temps than a FE while being cheaper, so just hold in there for anything besides FE to come in stock. OC to 2100 / 11000 no problem and near silent gaming.

I'm also coming off a single GTX 970 for surround displays, and the 1080 is running BF4 Ultra 4xmsaa at 60fps all day long. One of my favorite graphics cards to come out since the AMD 7970.

How's the Zotac going temps-wise compared to other AIB cards? I've always been wary of them due to reports of sub-standard TIM being used on the cards and of sag.

just from visual I would be wary of the 1080 AMP Extreme sagging too .. that thing is big as a house

but the regular 1080 AMP looks fine

dunno about temps

I haven't adjusted any voltages or fan curves, I just bumped up TDP and +150 core, 490 memory and called it done. I'm about to play some BF4 and I'll leave GPU-Z running in background to record temps and clock speeds during a full multiplayer round.
I played 30 minutes of BF4 multiplayer on the Zotac 1080 AMP and the average temp was 72°C with an average 2060 core clock with my quick unrefined overclock.
I know for sure the card goes over 2100, but I haven't tested the overclocking potential in depth. Changing the TIM would probably lower temps some, but they are good enough where I don't feel the need to.

LINK to a 3DMark run I made.

With vsync enabled in games, I have to take my side panel off my case and hold my head near the GPU to hear the fans or coil whine. It makes less noise than my Noctua NF F12 fans on the resistor and fan controller turned down. When you hit super high FPS with vsync off, coil whine gets loud but it doesn't sound like normal whine. Its similar to the sound a low rpm HDD spinning up, but louder. But the fans themselves are nearly silent. The coil whine is a little disappointing, but unless you are at something like 200FPS it's still quieter than my Gigabyte 970 G1 that had no whine.

The unit itself is rather wide and heavy, but it doesn't sag. The backplate feels to be made of either carbon or PCB glass, and it holds it together nicely. The fan shroud is made of metal and the same carbon material accents that they dipped into a carbon fiber hydro dip.

The only other thing I can think of worth mentioning is I cannot figure out how to change the RGB lights. They are listed in the options on the Zotac firestorm overclocking tool, but they are whited out and don't do anything. I tried to disable them with the Geforce experience program, but it doesn't do anything either.

Sounds like Zotac have hit upon another winner then, might take one of those if my FTW doesn't show up soon.

Man, I´ve got the same results with a Titan X @ 1460/7900/ 1.218v! Just ordered a G1 arriving tuesday. Seems that I´ll return it, sadly.

I've thought you couldn't possibly have 23535 with a TitanX at 1460. Can you show it to us? :O
