Im disapointed with the 1080s i sold my 980ti Amp extreme (@1500mhz stable) and my 980ti Sc+ (@1450mhz Stable)
I was Hoping at least 20% more Perfomance + OC headrom....

And now i read This

http://videocardz.com/60631/asus-rog-strix-geforce-gtx-1080-offers-poor-overclocking

Is The Oc potential so bad? can noone hit 2100mhz + (LN2 Record is about 2400 very poor)

What do u guys think?
Whould we wait for an 1080Ti?

Right now i am leaning towards the Asus Strix the most.

I just asked the Gigabyte FB page and he confirmed that the card has backplate thumb.gif

'GIGABYTE Xtreme Gaming : If you look closely there's a soldered up bracket white in the back because this is an early engineering sample. The card has a backplate, you'll see more pictures tomorrow when Computex starts '

Could you please run Octane Bench on 1080 and post results here?

Well part of the reason they likely could hit 2100Mhz was they had VSync on, the demo they showed was locked to 60fps. As the demo never once dipped below 60fps I bet the GPU wasn't stressed at all.

https://youtu.be/w3ktjT-_96c?t=45m15s

Also notice how the overlay didn't have GPU usage, Power usage or Fan speeds listed. I bet they also had the fan cranked up to 100%! mad.gif

I've seen the same thing with my GTX980Ti when I force a game to 60fps the GPU can run at higher clocks if the GPU isn't maxed out at 99%. For example in GTA5 if I lock to 60fps my card could hit 1580Mhz with about 60-70% gpu usage. If I uncap the fps at 99% usage I had to drop clocks down about 100Mhz to keep stability.

I'm thinking of replacing 2 R9-290s in CF with a single GTX 1080. Any thoughts?

I wouldn't draw too many conclusions from one test of one card. It's still down to the silicon lottery and the chip is brand new which means that both drivers and bioses needs to mature. The review doesn't mention anything about what driver version was used either. I think we need to hold off one or two driver versions and maybe one or two bios revisions before we can draw any conclusions. I wouldn't worry too much at this stage.
