Parallel configurations not only look clean but also perform as good as serial configurations. EVEN if it did perform marginally worse, (and it doesn't here) I'd still set it up this way because it looks way more aesthetically pleasing! smile.gif

i will mention again that i have a MSI 1080 GAMING X

ive taken a look at both MSI's 1080 gaming x oc bios which is standard with my card, and the strix1080xoc bios.
now with my standard OC bios i have noticed even when altering the frequency curve it does not change the voltage that is has which is inbetween 1.04 - 1.0930 Max under load, so for the conclusion of the oc standard msi bios is that the voltage is capped which only led me to get to 2025mhz stable, under quick tests.

now with the strix1080xoc bios i was able to modify the frequency curve to reach the voltage of 1.200 max which led me to a 2080mhz clock on a quick test, the temperatures also changed with this bios showing lower temperatures even with higher voltage

Idle voltage on MSI Standard bios shows 51c
idle voltage on strix1080xoc bios shows 38c

now im wondering why the temperatures are so different.
and why the MSI bios has a capped voltage.

Does the fans om msi gaming x not spin untill your card hits a certain degree ? while the strix ocx bios make the fans spin all the time no matter the temp of the card ?

Yes, thats true, the fans on msi gaming x, only start to spin after 60º, so thats the reason of the different temps, compared to the strix card, that spin allways.

Yeah, unless you've changed touched the fan profile on the MSI Gaming X, the fans don't spin until you hit 60C

I would prefer to have them spinning always, they make almost no noise anyway but will give a lot better idle temps so....

Hi, can you give some feedback how the strix 1080xoc bios works on your msi gaming x (i have one too)
Did you gain or loose performance with the strix bios, how much core clocks stable can you obtain ?

i was aware of the Gaming X only starting to spin at 60c but yea that did go over my head with the strix bios i had not checked the fan speeds, was too concentrated on getting higher clocks.

Goes to show how quiet the fans are smile.gif

i tested the MSI OC bios by turning the fans on 25% till it cooled down to around 35c, i then turned the fans off and it has stayed at 35c at idle, didnt go back to the 50c.... probably not relevant to anything but i did test it lol

i will do more testing soon will be back with further results thanks for the reminder of the fan speeds.

Just flashed the strix modded bios on my msi gaming x, and been playing with the msi ab "curve" overclock.
Just did some quick benchs and gaming, and i can confirm that the higher core clocks i can have with 1.15v or 1.20v, give worst performance than lowers core clocks... it's strange... something wrong with this strix modded bios... could it be related to power ?
Other thing, is that even at 1.2vcore i can't reach 2200mhz.

For example, my msi gaming x:

original bios @ 2076 core is faster than strix bios @ 2152 core
(3dmark ultra, valley, rainbowsix siege, BF1)
