Which of those multi-mode cards has a hw or other kind of switch that doesn't need Windows and special tool? Asus needs GPU Tweak 2 so it's out of the question... EVGA FTW can switch BIOS-es so to make OC one primary?

If you had to choose gigabyte g1 gaming 1080 vs gainward phoenix 1080 wich one would you go for? Phoenix is 60eur cheaper and quieter I belive, could I hope drastic oc improvements over the phoenix, personally I dont think so.
Not sure if its gonna be air or water.

Guess it's a BIOS set limit because the temps don't even reach 70c with an overclock.

Honestly going any higher for 1080p@144hz gaming is pointless anyway, this card kills everything at that res.. biggrin.gif

holly smoke, i thought that my FE is bad, cuz i can only hit 2025mhz stable, little bit more and drivers crashing, guys did you realize taht boost bins are somehow fixed ? like i set in MSI afterburner for 1.093v 2030mhz and its hitting 2038mhz

i heard that G1 gaming its pretty loud, i'd say go for Phoenix, but overclocking depends on silicon lottery no matter which brand u choose

If you don't plan on going SLI with the G1, then it's perfectly fine. it will never exceed 75C and 60% fan should you have good airflow. When I was running a single G1, it never exceeded 54% fan speed in any gaming situation and the noise was never greater than any of my case fans on a very moderate RPM (~1000RPM).

my G1 is fine overall, but my next card (likely 1180 Volta) will be either an MSI with Twin Frozr or a Gainward Phoenix with that double fan cooler of theirs .. or maybe a Zotac AMP also with double fans (I am going to go with bigger double fans over smaller triple fans)

I feel like those might be slight upgrades to Gigabyte G1

Im definitely passing on Palit and Asus, and EVGA custom isnt really sold around here a lot

Ill go with the gainward quiet operation is the most important for me, 1000rpm casefans piss me off already biggrin.gif

Haven't used the 1080 G1 but I had the 970 G1 cards and find it really sad that Gigabyte has not evolved their cooler design for G1 line. All other brands have and moved to larger fans including the Asus Strix. I was faced with a choice between Gigabyte, Asus and Evga and opted for the Strix. In your case I would go with Gainward.

I always go for the card that has wb block support from release. Ref. Design.

Looks a distant third priority for me. As far as cooling and noise goes, the XTREME clobbers the EVGA coolers.

Just to give an example with same clocks:

FTW = 65C and quite audible.
XTREME = 55C and 1/3rd the noise.
