Tried to play BF4. I had to take a call so I was AFK and the server booted me for being AFK for too long. No biggie I thought. But, now the desktop, everything on it, windows in Chrome etc., all moved at a snail's pace - almost like a slideshow. I would try to bring up the task manager but switching windows took a LONG time.

I couldn't even restart the computer - pressing the Windows icon brought the thing up and I pressed Restart but Origin failed to close and everything just moved really slowly.

I had to restart manually and everything's normal. It definitely has something to do with the power states or something with the GPUs - I guess changing the window from the game to the desktop did something where the cards were at 0% usage and everything moved extremely slowly.

Any idea what caused this or how to avoid this in the future?

noticed this as well, when i game I'll stop and go do something come back and I didn't notice anything in windows or on the net but when I run a 3d program the card won't boost normally... half at best. Restart and everythings fine again.

Tried every setting I could on it, and could never get the program to pull the card out of utilization throttling.

just too light to use as a stability test. could go pass it 30 times and fail miserably with 4 seconds of heaven or firestrike.

Firestrike Ultra Stresstest is killing me right now frown.gif

So how many of you who purchased the 1080s are going to get a Titan X?

HBM2 Vega / Volta or bust. I am not giving these stepping stone GPUs any more attention.

I have a bit of a dilemma:

Will it be possible to fit an HB bridge between a FE 1080 and a FTW 1080? (on ASUS RVE with an 80mm bridge). ph34r-smiley.gif

top line (ex-) Fuji pads (careful, they are more like a putty than a pad). Where are you putting the Liquid metal? JUST an FYI - the block mount tolerances make using a Liq metal a real challenge since they only really work well when the mount surfaces are perfect. The kryonaut on the GPU is more "imperfection" tolerant. I'd try that first and if the temps are not to your liking, go metal.
My experience using an EK uniblock on the 1080 with kryonaut (or gelid ex, PK-3 etc) is that the GPU temp will not be a problem, and there is no clock benefit between 30C and 45C. Hook up a water chiller and cool it to 5-10C and it will run higher clocks.. for us "ambient" players. wink.gif
Hi mate smile.gif
I used fujipoly pads on my asus ares 3 card which was 295x2 with custom pcb and waterblock. Improved my vrm temps by up yo 35C under heavy oc and volts.
Its rly good to use it and I rly recommend it!
I also used CLU on both of the cores and it dropped temps by ~10-15C. I ended up with about 40-50C on ares 3 wich has an EK waterblock.
I will use it with 1080 as well wink.gif I wil ltest how the normal paste is spreading first ofc .. thumb.gif
