I couldn't stand the temps I was getting for that small little box. Results are awesome though. Dropped the CPU load temps by about 40c and GPU temps by 30c when my 6 year old and I game on it. It all started a few years ago with a Corsair AIO CPU cooler. Then I just had to have more. tongue.gif

When I have some funds, I plan on watercooling my PFsense router that's based on a J1900 SoC. Overkill? Yes. Fun? OH HELL YEAH!thumb.gif

Clocks can be awkward to read. One driver might result in lower stable clocks but produce the same scores at 100MHz lower clock than another driver.

Not even sure how accurate they are. Ran some FS tests at clocks reported as 12.5MHz, 25MHz, and 100MHz in 3DMark, GPU-z and HWiNFO and they all scored about the same with the 12.5MHz being mathematically 8x slower than 100MHz taking first place. WTH lol.

http://www.3dmark.com/compare/fs/10274004/fs/10274216/fs/10274433

So moral of the story, don't go chasing clocks, chase performance.

Mine can barely go past 23K. I got two of them at least but the performance in SLI is kinda disappointing for a set of cards costing over 1,000$. Still struggles mightily at 4K in the latest games. Heard HB bridge or two standard bridges deliver better performance in many games though.

Hey anyone on here have a Strix 1080 that can give me some insight?

I'm currently talking about this on the 1060 owners thread...

But my girlfriend's 1060 Strix does NOT throttle boost when hitting the heat limits we see when we're testing our air cooled 1080s.

Like how all of ours start throttling boost at 55c and then again at 60c.

Her 1060 Strix doesn't fluctuate at ALL.

Another user on here said that might be because of the bios? Interesting theory. Wondering if any of you guys have tried a Strix bios on your card or have an actual Strix to give me some insight/experience.

I have 2 Strix 1080s. They throttle. Bios is one I got from techpowerup 1080 OC bios. Even with my original AG bios, they would throttle.
Don't know why you are asking about 1060 in a 1080 thread since 1060 may have a different boost algorithm with different temperature limits (maybe)? Don't have a clue about the 1060 as a card lol.

Figured it was worth a try asking for other Pascal Strix experience.

That would be nice if you could drop a 1060 Bios on a 1080 and rid yourself of throttling all together.

I have tr5ied heaven 4.0 at 1440p but the screen just goes black ,,, its a 4k monitor and thoughts? also I did manage 5781 on firestrike 4k ultra which is what this card says it can do. reference is in the 4900-s to 5100etc.. so i guess its not hat bad, its not like im gonna notice that 600 extra points. IM just aggravated when we alt tab out the nvidia drivers drop it down to 30 fps until we undo and redo v sync , even vsyc fast has the same problem

Just received my new GTX 1080 FTW from EVGA and I gotta say that the RGB leds look pretty sweet. I haven't had much time to play with it yet but it boosts to 2025 straight out of the box. I already have the FTW block in my possession from EK, but I think i'll do some testing on air first. It is a good looking card and I will miss the way it looks all lit up in my case.

I would use the liquid metal but, it will corrode aluminum. I just reapplied standard thermal grease on reassembly.

Power, and clocks are better! But, temps are worse, or the same roughly.

I need a recommendation of the absolute best thermal there is! Lol

I use the Kryonaut as well... since I didn't try any other brand I can't tell if there's any difference, but I'll just believe all the tests out there smile.gif

The biggest difference I noticed was that it was much harder to spread and the included stuff wasn't that good. I've always done the spread and cover the die/ihs and not the pea method. So I just put some cling film on my finger and spread it that way
