I agree, this should not happen, but it's not so annoying as to RMA the card (this is a personal opinion). I expect they'll address this in a future vBios.

Basically when your not gaming. Does it happen with precision x or afterburner open? What happens if you make a similar to stock fan curve? Maybe the polling rate is too high?

They would never release that directly to the public though. Can't ask people to risk bricking their card. I'm tempted to cancel my order since it doesn't ship till Monday.

I can't speak about the 1080 but my travel laptop (Lenovo Thinkpad ..something) has the same hair dryer issue with the cooler. Every few minutes it just spikes up for not reason, keeps spinning hard for a few (20+) seconds, then goes back to normal RPM. It is supremely annoying and Lenovo have refused to fix or even acknowledge it for years now.

Hopefully this will not be the case with the 1080. Keeping my fingers crossed! thumb.gif

It only happens when you start gaming. On idle, and after a few minutes of gaming, the fan is stable. The problem shows itself during the first moments, when the fan will spike up by itself and down again (to follow the fan curve normally). Setting up a custom fan curve doesn't help, it still spikes up a few times before it reaches a stable temperature (since you asked, poll rating is 2s with 2C hysteresis).

It's an EVGA FE.

The FTW isn't expected to release until about then....I doubt they add it to the step up program until late June. Still...worth waiting just in case.

Congrats to all 1080 owners. I hope you guys are very happy with your purchase. Those of you who upgraded from few generations back I can feel your enthusiasm all the way here in Turkey thumb.gif

I have one question to a specific group. Those who gamed at a single 980ti before. How much did your experience change after upgrading to 1080? It would be great to hear it from people who tried both GPUs..

Once again people, enjoy your new GPUs thumb.gif
