I won't be rocking a 1080 any time soon sadly, need to pay rent and get a job at the same time or I'll be homeless lol so will have to wait, probably have the custom pcbs and or even the ti models out by the time I can grab one. biggrin.gif

Bad picture but Thermosphere is working great on this card as well, temps of gpu and vrm in the 40's. Have a full block coming but this works really well, may send it back and just use this until the Ti classy comes out.

what mod is required to fit the thermosphere to the EVGA SC card?

Just have to cut the mounting bracket so it fits over the tabs of the baseplate. Back when the 980 ACX came out people were cutting the tabs off so I came up with this as a workaround and am surprised at how well it works as long as there's enough airflow to remove heat from the baseplate.

How large is the cutout on the SC version's baseplate?

I'd imagine that the FE Reference edition would have to cut the baseplate to mount a thermosphere.

Regarding the cutting mod, I researched the original picture of a thermosphere

Wouldn't the "mod" take away the mounting pressure and some structural integrity of the waterblock?

It is if you put liquid metal thermal paste on the three shunt resistors, that raises the available power by 20%-30%.

Yeah, thats not going to work without taking off the baseplate...maybe the Supremacy GPU block but even thats a stretch. Problem is the mounting holes with the baseplate are going to keep it from making contact. Don't see a way to make it work without taking the baseplate off, maybe someone else does. Your best option is probably a full cover block. Don't cut the baseplate, I'd imagine that would void your warranty.

As far as mounting pressure and structural integrity with modding the thermosphere, no it still tightens up just the same...its a metal bracket held down with metal screws...never had a problem securing it as designed.

Curious which bracket you are using for your AIO? Thinking of using my H110i for my 1080.
