From ATI to AMD back to ATI? - Page 2

Rather Kyle at [H] is salty or most of the info is true, one thing still is apparent to me. AMD needs to be re structured. Currently it is not doing so well.

my HD 4555 works. Had a 4670, 5830 and 6870 sold them here in ocn. Three 7900 cards, 2 290s and HD 7770. No artifacts whatsoever. Currently have used 7950 and 290 . . . both going strong.headscratch.gif

You got to handle them like babies.

EDIT: [H] is clearly still sour.

Yea and I own a 4850, 6850 and 2 290's.. I'm saying their quality has went down hill... The gigabyte fury was doa because of a known driver issue, the black screen at win10 login.. The Sapphire is again driver related because it only artifacts on down clock situations (closing programs) and for some reason firefox/youtube player window and as been ongoing for months amd knows of both issues and has yet to resolve them.

I'm not so sure its actually a driver issue, I'm thinking it may be architecture related and they cant fix the issues since they have been ongoing for well over 6 months.

There is a program called clock blocker. Google it. Also black screen at windows 10 is an old driver issue. it has long since been fixed. The black screen at windows 10 was not bricking cards though.

im not using anything, you shouldnt have to use anything for a $500 plus video card to function as it should in the first place.

The black screen issue has not been fixed, people come into amds own forums daily with the black screen issue..The admins there have deleted a thread over 60pages long to cover it up, there is currently another thread started on the black screen issue that is now over 10 pages long..

I also know of clockblocker, and I refuse to use it on a $500+ gpu that should function correctly out of the box.. I didnt pay that much to have a gpu that does not function as it should without having to use 3rd party programs to get it to function as it should in the first place.. again poor quality and poor support.

AMD quality has went down hill to the point I think they actually contract out their driver development to a 3rd party that doesn't know what the hell they are doing..

So lots of tech press folks are flying out today for Macau China where AMD will be showing off its Polaris 10 and 11 architecture over the next few days. Just FYI, HardOCP was NOT INVITED to this event. When I reached out to confirm with AMD that we were not invited, and our invitation had not just gotten lost in the mail, AMD PR refused to answer the question. I guess that sums it up!

Salt. Lots and lots of salt.

Also, AMD said specifically that the P10 was competing in the mid range market. The article is a fabrication, H really should not be taken seriously.

This is about load management by the driver for really light loads I suppose.

Midrange is going to be competing with the 1050 and 1060 not the 1070 or 1080 until winter... The benchmarks I'm seeing of polaris havent been very impressive unless the benches were lying. I've watched some benchmarks of the 1070 and it is trading blows with the fury-x and titan-x and at $380-$440 is pretty impressive.. I see a huge price cut in the Fury/furyx. The 390/390x will be obsolete, heck the fury/furyx might be obsolete..

yep, its not a console, but you should be able to install the gpu, load drivers on a fresh copy of windows and the gpu function as a gpu should.. not have to dick around with 3rd party programs for it to function correctly..

There is ZERO benches for polaris yet just speculation. If it competes with the 980ti for 300$ its a good deal, but then not if the aib 1070s come out to be 350$ because those ACTUAL benches look fantastic for what the card is beats the 980ti in a few benches for LESS wattage.

Polaris was never ever meant to compete with 980ti/1070/1080 i wish people would put that to rest already its annoying. Polaris is more for 1080p maxed out AND VR in crossfire as in one card driving one eye.

As far as black screen issues, ive got thru every single driver on my r9 390 and if installed correctly have had ZERO black screens. Ive had issues with TDR with a couple drivers but thats mostly down to a chrome issue because it only happens when using chrome. Something to do with the built in flash would be my guess. Now once they go to HTML5 no one will have issues.

Hardcrap is just pissed that they werent invited and didnt get any Fiji samples off the bat, and honestly who cares. If youre going to bash a company with no actual facts or merit then thats your fault. Its why i dont take their site and pcper(nvidia) as a joke. I mean the site is in nvidia colors for Gods sake.

All we have to do is wait and see, if Polaris 10 competes with the r9 390x for half the wattage and slightly lower price thats a win win because the r9 390 isnt a mid range card. If it does beat my r9 390 by quite a bit ill be picking one up, if not then Vega it is. THe 1070 is very very tempting for the performance but i just got a freesync monitor so im good haha.

The benches of the 1070 put the 390 to the midrange segment. the 1070 is running neck and neck with the titan-x 980ti and fury-x,
