No idea. I am looking forward to whats coming tonight smile.gif

but the name RX480 and RX480X is confused as hell.

dunno why they dropped R9 name. seriously they should go with 480 and 485.

Let the market do that.

They are aiming at the mid range and low markets first, which is where the most of the turnover is.

Bringing low power graphics first can be used can be used in big contracts with Apple etc, as well as many mainstream consumers you play on 1080p.

Hey I'm not saying you are wrong, you might be right, but I'm not feeling the theory right now due to what we've been told about Polaris and it's reported position in the market.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that it will be a fail.

I'm just saying that this is a mid-range, mainstream GPU. And it will be priced around $250-$299.

And they will have a higher tier, as well. I'm not saying that they'll be released together, nor questioning their business model.

10 = X in Roman numbers. So I guess it is supposed to mean R10.

No idea. maybe there will be R7 480 and R9 480 with different VRAM (maybe GDDR5X and GDDR5) or 4GB and 8GB. No idea.

Just randomly guessing. Or they changed it up completely.

RX 480
RX 485 full fat?

Let's hope they clear that up soon smile.gif

I thought of that to be the least reasonable explanation. You don't mix up letters and roman numerals. It sounds just weird imho.

I mean, nobody knows whether Rx480 uses Polaris 10 XT or not.

What we do know is that it almost certainly uses largest Polaris 10 chip we saw in benchmarks.

Totally agree that it's weird.

What do those Rx numbers actually stand for? Is it architectural differences?

and the name RX480 and R480 don't make any sense either.

for example if you go to computer parts store

"hey... i want to buy an amd 480 graphics card"

"which one R or RX ?"

"OMGWTH !!!!"

AMD made their cards names unnecessarily complicated. hope they end up with simple names like 480 and 485.
