So I just spend more than 2 hours here and I just didnt find the right conclusion for me at least.
I have currently a 780 Ti with Skynet Bios watercooled and I will upgrade to a 1070 or 980TI. I will defently run the new one on water too.

I have the feeling there are so many differnt opinions about the thread to go with the new pascal 1070 or sticking with 980TI.
The benchmarks I saw ( reference and about the asus strix 1070 ) maked me kind of confused and I have litteraly no clue which card i should pick.
I dont care that much about energy consumption or efficiency, I just want the max. Fps or benchmark that I can get for my money..
So do u guys think I should go with a 980TI ( I had a HOF, G1 or Classy in mind ) and go with the roughly 1500mHz or with a 1070 ( like Gaming X or G1 ) ?
The prices in my region are about the same..

I would really appreciate it when some of u guys can give me some advices wink.gif

I got 980ti and brand new water block for the price of 1070 FE so I call it a better deal since the cards are almost identical when overclocked. I don't care about power draw either and many 1070 owners report different problems with it.
Another thing, so far they realased blocks only for founders edition, no one knows when we'll see blocks for custom pcbs.
980ti HOF you can get a block from Bitspower(which is extremely hard to get in Europe, freaking expensive and very bad quality) or Diamond cooling, they make it to customer order, cost is £120 I think.
For G1 you can easily get Ek 980ti WF3 and that's fairly cheap and easy to get. I got that for my card, should be ready for testing by the end of week, gonna do some tests on different drivers and games and try to stack it up against 1070 benchmarks.
oced 1070 seems to be a tad stronger @ 1080p(against reference 980ti @ 1455Mhz which isn't a great oc) but on higher resolutions 980ti beats 1070 in most titles so keep it in mind.

It's a tough call since the performance will be so close. You do get the newer display port capability with the 1070, but it's not really capable of taking advantage of that on it own. If you are thinking about VR then maybe there are some other advantages there for the 1070. Flat out performance numbers are going to depend on the card you get, if you end up with a really good 980ti it may outperform the 1070... especially if you got a 1070 that didn't want to give you 2.0ghz.

Another thing to consider is that the 980ti has a years worth of optimizations in it already, will it still keep up with a 1070 after a years worth of optimization?

No point buying a new 980 Ti.

But if you can get a good deal on a used 980 Ti (<$350 USD, ideally <$300), I'd still go for it.

You'll see new ones at that price soon enough, I would think. I have already seen them at $389.

I have to say I had once a really bad experience with buying a used card so i dont mind to spend some money more to get a new...

What i am thinking ( and call me wrong if I do )
Here there are benchmarks from witcher 3 ( 2k ultra settings, max details, hairworks and hbao+ disabled )
They got the 1070 strix to nearly 2150 mHz without voltage adjustments and for me I think under water and with some voltage adjustments u can get even further

I'd be interested in a performance comparison between the 2150mhz Strix and a 1500 mhz 980Ti Lightning
