and Id rather use a 144hz IPS even if it had QC issues than be stuck at 60hz or with a TN

TN is just trash, the angles make TN nigh-unusable to me, I dont always sit perfectly straight in front of it .. and I cant go back to 60Hz after seeing 144, especially if you have the GPU to support it

Where I would rather have Ultra settings with AA maxed at a stable 60fps. In order to maintain over 100-120fps in 1440p you would have to dial back the settings in most of the more popular demanding games even with my gpu setup. The only thing I wish I had was Gsync but its super rare that I ever drop under 60 frames anyways.

and the QC is even better on Feb-March 2016 models

Yeah and if you go look at the Amazon reviews, 2 out of the top 10 reviews complain about significant backlight bleeding, while one outright states he had issues with THREE separate XB271HU units he ordered.

Bottom line is QC is inconsistent at best.

buying a $600 IPS I would really prefer to buy second hand and get the opportunity to see it before I buy

Or buy it from Amazon because at least they don't make you eat return shipping or charge restocking or nonsense like that even if the faulty product you received is 100% NOT your fault.

Is this after a replacement or do you generally just return 1st time failed products? I myself usually get a replacement before I completely return a product.

Both, but I generally ask for a refund if a replacement isn't immediately available.

Looks like they're in stock at NewEgg for my fellow Canadians:

MSI GeForce GTX 1070 Gaming:

MSI GeForce GTX 1070 Gaming X (OOS, but here's the link anyways):

I just ordered one smile.gif. Got pretty tired of reading about GPUs and just want to start gaming again.

(Minus The Division since that doesnt make any sense)

1080p:
GTX 1070 is 8% faster than GTX 980Ti

1440p:

GTX 1070 is 10% faster than GTX 980Ti

4K
GTX 1070 is 10% faster than GTX 980Ti

Overclocked:
Since GTX 1070 can overclock to 2GHz, I assume overclocked 2GHz GTX 1070 vs 1420MHz GTX 980Ti will perform roughly the same
