relative to what you paid for it? 1070 will hold value better- Generally, regardless of product the higher up you go the faster it will depreciate in value, because the premium for that incremental performance was that much higher.

Absolute value wise yes 1080 will resell for more but relative value wise compared to new price it will be for less. Still anyone wanting a 2nd hand card will try and get a 1080 instead of a 1070 depends on supply and demand, more often than not GTX cards are overpriced even on 2nd hand market because people think they got some gold or what just because it's nGreeenia.

Ok. So are you guys saying that buying a 1080 will make me lose more money in the long run but I'll ve able to sell it easier than the 1070?

My dillema is that I can buy either of them but my aim is to not lose more money when it's time to sell it in the future. Don't we all want that? smile.gif

Fellas here's my current setup

700w power supply
Gigabyte Gaming 7 motherboard
Skylake 6700k overclocked to 4.5 with 1.28v stable. Can even reach 4.8 stable at 1.38 v
NZXT X61 Kraken liquid cooler with its 2 fans
32 GB Patriot 3000mhz ram
3 HEC Cougar Vortex fans
Carbide Series 500R Mid-Tower Case

Now I'm upgrading my Asus Radeon 6850 to the ASUS ROG GeForce GTX 1070 STRIX-GTX1070-O8G-GAMING that I purchased last night. I'm wondering if my 700w power supply will be sufficent enough for this card's natural overclocking abilities. I guess I will find out but something tells me I'm going to need a 850w or better power supply. The Asus 6850 is less efficient and probably draws more power than a GTX 1070 so I'm wondering if I will be OK.

You should be fine, but you can always check what your 12v rail amps are and compare that to the STRIX requirements. Take total TDP and divide by 12 to get the amps required for the card, and make sure your system has sufficient overhead. An example: 180TDP/12volts = 15amp draw from the GPU. thumb.gif

appreciate the insight...now I gotta wait on Newegg to ship my GPU. It's the last piece to complete my Skylake build.

thumb.gif have fun with the build, and post some benchmark results for us!

Yessir! Will do! Pretty excited. Skylakes are monsters. Got a 6700 at work and 6700k at home. I love these chips
