Nah, not this time. The 1080 is a more impressive card over the 1070 than the 980 was over the 970.

I haven't looked at many benches, but it think the 1080 might have a big lead in some titles, especially at 1440/4k. The only people who will be 980'd are the ones who buy that ripoff FE edition.

Their own fault for jumping on the hype train too early or some just want the performance no matter the value in performance per dollar. tongue.gif

1) price/performance .. obviously 1080 is faster, but it also costs almost 2x more, the 1070 value is far superior
2) 1080 turned out only ~20% faster than 1070 (instead of ~30%), check the benches yourself, most didnt think 1070 would come so relatively close to 1080

That was the same argument pitched in the 970 vs 980 threads though, and we see how that turned out.

Looks like a great little card. Will be interesting to see if the 980ti performance starts to drop going forward.

Perhaps. tongue.gif Who knows, i wouldn't buy either as they are just a stop gap between 4K afaic.

The 1080 has higher specs compared to the 1070 vs the 980/70 though. Cases like this may be the norm;

are you perhaps a prophet ? redface.gif

tbh the 1070 & 1080 is pretty much a repeat of 970 and 980, only this time:

- both new cards are faster relative to the previous gen than 970/980 were
- they are also more expensive
- the 970 was the value 1080p card, 1070 is the value 1440P card ..
- 1070 has all of its VRAM rolleyes.gif

For those complaining about price I think you raise good points.

Just remember that as I said in our intro, the GTX 1070's price (non Founders Edition) isn't unprecedented in the least.

GTX 470: $349
GTX 570: $349
GTX 670: $399
GTX 770: $399
GTX 970: $329

That GTX 970 was an exception rather than the rule.

Yeah, the FE still leaves a bad taste in my mouth much like Day 1 DLC but NVIDIA has proven again there are always shills who will pay anything to be first.
