have a potato video to show i was familiar with what was going on:

roughly 5-8 fps increase and decreased stutter significantly.

If that was the case, why did they make a generic comment about Kepler performance improvements instead of simply stating that they fixed performance issues with the Witcher 3 with Kepler cards, which would limit their PR problems? One would think that they wouldn't want to leave such an open interpretation in there, especially if there were no grounds to leave it there. Mentioning bug fixes for specific games is a common thing to do, but they didn't do that.

I wonder how hard it would be for them to implement those optimizations to their older cards? Neglecting their insanely expensive, previous generation cards that aren't even 2 years old (7xx -> 9xx series in this case) may as well be categorized as gimping in my books. I guess people are already conditioned enough by Nvidia that they're willfully turning the other cheek while purchasing their $700 cards on a yearly/bi-yearly basis and have just accepted that as the norm (whipped consumers come to mind). JHH should have included in his Pascal slides that they'll only be supporting this card for the next year only... just so you can rush out and buy a shiny new upgrade in only one year's time.

the bias/hate against Nvidia is real, wow redface.gif

maybe Nvidia just does good drivers/optimization right away and doesnt require years to achieve that like AMD does and thats why years later you dont see much improvement to old cards since they're already maxed out their potential when they were relevant/current top ?

Do you actually believe, in today's age, that technology is released and already maxed out to its full potential just in time for the next release? Are you really that oblivious?

When it comes to Nvidia, people would rather spend money to get a performance increase it seems. It is borderline crazy.

My thoughts on the 1070 and Pascal in general.

So I was looking through all the specs of the 1070 and I was really curios on how much of an improvement there is between Maxwell and Pascal. So I put together a little comparison I would like one of the reviewers to try.

980 Vs 1070

2048 CUDA cores vs 1920

If they would drop the memory speed to 7ghz on the 980 and clocked both cards at the same clock speed I think we would get a general idea on the performance increase in Pascal. If it performs better on the 1070, it would clearly be better with having less cores.

Thoughts?

980 wins except Dx12 + async compute.

I think Nvidia driver team is really good yes

or at least they have been (in recent times) on ~Kepler/Maxwell and DX11 so far

good question and answering that would be guessing.

iirc the mention of the kepler bug was just the day before release of that driver. (this was on the 352.86 thread if you have the time to look.) whether or not they had the time to document better or intentionally left it vague to seem . . well . . . better; either way, i assure you the vast majority of people didn't take it as proof of kepler gimping but as fact they didn't stop optimizing for kepler.

so is the glass half empty or half full? wink.gif

btw, sorry if i came off a little adversarial.

I wonder how 1070 sli are going to perform. But it is min. FPS i am interested in, and that is usually not good on sli.In Hexus review of the 1070 it do not do well in The division 1080p, you really need a 1080 to get min 72 fps.

SLI vs single card? C'mon you know I was talking about single card vs single card.

Also I have an MSi, not Gigabyte G1, so you might be confusing me with somebody else.

Technology always improves over time, plus historical precedence pretty much tells you what you can expect. So the significantly less costly card bit is no surprise and no justification is needed. If you think I'm desperately trying to justify my purchase then perhaps you've been biased by your own preconceptions. wink.gif

21159 graphics score, so still about a 11.7% lead over the 1070 @ 2GHz.
