yeah hitting 1974-2000 Mhz core boost without even touching the card is pretty crazy

GPU boost 3.0 sure has some shenanigans redface.gif

and with OC you can get close to 2100 and have 9400 memory simultaneously

The 1070 looks like great value. The 1080 not so much.

If your priority is running synthetic benchmarks rather than gaming, I guess so..... No complaints about the 1080 results in actual games.

After looking at the gaming benchmarks I see what you're saying, much larger gap in the gaming performance than the gap in firestrike scores.

Roughly 10% gain in firestrike yet 20% in game. Interesting.

So if money is no object, a 1080 is a better buy than a 1070 even for 1080p? Its (1080) resale value will be even better in the future, right?

Not sure I'd buy one for 1080p personally but they are not terrible value no. The top card is always going to have a slightly worse $/fps ratio.

It's roughly 35% more expensive for a 20% gain?

Sorry can't be bothered doing the maths lol.

You make it look good with the 35% more expensive 20% gain figures tongue.gif

Assuming $400 for a 1070 and $650 for a 1080 as AIB cards thats 62.5% more expensive for the 1080 with 20% gain with cards each pushed to near max clocks on air. So the 1080 is actually pretty awful value. As for getting a 1080 for 1080p gaming, i can see it being beneficial for a 144hz monitor, 60hz would be a total waste, but i do see a 1080 as kind of overkill even for 144hz 1080p unless you absolutely always want to have high frame rates and max titles out. Otherwise a 1070 would be perfect for 144hz 1080p and you can still get great fps especially if you tweak settings here and there to maximize performance at little graphical quality loss.

I am getting a 1070 for 1440p 144Hz

I'll still have 144+ fps in CS Go/Dota 2 1440p and maybe even in Overwatch 1440p on High/Ultra settings (below the max Epic) and other similar titles

heavy SP stuff like Witcher 3 or RotR will be 60+

and the rest in-between

all helped out by Gsync

and of course it'll only get better and better (as I hit 100-120+ fps on more and more titles) with future more powerful cards

how many ppl can overclock their 980Ti's to +1500MHz on auto fan settings ?
I've got a 81.4 asic MSI 980Ti 6G one (actually sold yesterday) and it needs +70% fan to sustain 1354MHz. If I set i t to constant 69% it's gonna downclock to 1340MHz pretty soon, then 1327MHz after a quarter or so cause it's gonna reach 80 degrees. I can do 1510MHz but only 100% fan, even then it sometimes downclocks. Really looking forward to getting me a 1080 or a 1070 Gaming X and enjoying a few fps more with less noise and power consumption.
+2050MHz on 60% fan would be crazy good, twin frozr is inaudible at those settings. I wonder if they managed to get that 2088/9400 OC at this rpm
