[Various] GTX 1070 reviews - Page 71

I just checked my local e-shops and they actually have Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1080 G1 Gaming for 706 EUR !

thats like a steal with EUR prices, holy

and Palit Gamerock 1080 is 700-705 EUR ...

assuming those supplies/prices last and assuming the good AIB 1070s will cost 500+ EUR here - I might just splurge the extra 200 for the G1 1080

but if the 1070s are ~450 (it might happen) then Im getting the 1070 still

Sorry can't be bothered doing the maths lol.

Assuming $400 for a 1070 and $650 for a 1080 as AIB cards thats 62.5% more expensive for the 1080 with 20% gain with cards each pushed to near max clocks on air. So the 1080 is actually pretty awful value. As for getting a 1080 for 1080p gaming, i can see it being beneficial for a 144hz monitor, 60hz would be a total waste, but i do see a 1080 as kind of overkill even for 144hz 1080p unless you absolutely always want to have high frame rates and max titles out. Otherwise a 1070 would be perfect for 144hz 1080p and you can still get great fps especially if you tweak settings here and there to maximize performance at little graphical quality loss.

How about the resale value for the 1080, would it be better than the 1070?

Would this be considered a 980ti killer? Well, maybe not killer, but a much better option than 980ti? i mean, at this point, what does the 980ti have BETTER than 1070? Usually in these scenarios, the vram on a new car like 1070 is lower than a Ti, but now its flipped the other way around.
1070 is the better option as long as it doesn't exceed $450.Unfortunately european prices will come close to $500-550 if 1080 is any indication which sells anywhere from 800-950 euro,in Germany,France,Greece e.t.c.We are blessed with some greedy retailers here looking to make an easy buck from suckers with more money than sense.

And most of all: a very stronk Euro. I do miss the 1.4 ration on dollar/euro. Don't forget US prices don't include VAT, which is close to 20% depending on where you live.

If you can pick up a GTX 980 Ti for sub 400, it's seems like a far better deal. OC'd 980 Ti eats the 1070 for breakfast

It's more a case of an unfair taxation system.

I don't know.I remember when the 980ti first appeared on sale it was between 670-720 euro in many online stores here. Now the price is around 600-620 in line with other countries.I really cannot understand this 250 increase assuming we are talking about the $600 gtx1080 and indicates a luck of competition from amd.Very disappointing the road the whole gpu market is heading. The funny thing is that other electronic devices like phones are in line with us prices,so why no excessive taxation there?

https://www.skroutz.gr/s/7801410/LG-V10-32GB.html Look at that nice price here.I think i'm in the wrong hobby:mad:

GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 are Founder`s Edition while the GTX 980Ti are also Reference model.

Try it with aftermarket cards. We know the GTX 1080 barely did better with an aftermarket version, but aftermarket 980 Ti's do a lot better than a reference edition.
That said, it's only a matter of time before the GTX 1070 knocks it over thanks to the Magic Nvidia Driver crippling rolleyes.gif

Still, if you can get a second hand 980 Ti for cheap, it's a still a good choice - even if it's just to bridge until the big Vega or big Pascal release.

except that 980Ti went to 1455 Mhz as it shows (and still lost to 1070 by a bit), custom wont do much better, they are not a guarantee to get to 1500+ stable 24/7

and even with 1500+ its only several % over the 1455 instead of "eats the 1070 for breakfast" as you tried to put it

especially if you want to keep that 980Ti quiet and cool while OCed to the max and overvolted (which custom 1070 does easily)
