II see zilch temperature throttling, I think people saying pascal throttles before it hits temp target are wrong, I think they misdiagnosed PWR throttling as temp related.

As an EVGA 1070 SC owner i set custom fan curve then i overclocked as this:

+60 core v , +50mhz gpu , +500 mem , %112 power target.

Then i increased gpu +50 to +60mhz,gpu-z told me that i can reach higher boost as you can expect but i got lower graphic score in Timespy then i got with +50mhz increase. At that test card hit max 71celcius but the highest boost clock that gpu-z read was 1987mhz and highest vddc 1.0620v.

How is other 1070 SC users doing any suggestion for hitting at least stable 2000mhz,i don't expect anything higher then that at the moment.

I think really all that happened is you had a very nice 970 chip that had lots of headroom.

boost 3.0 will be more aggressive in its automated overclocking meaning manual overclocking on top of that will seem disappointing.

On my 970 boost 2.0 only managed 110mhz over stock speeds, on my 1070 its done nearly 500 over stock.

Anandtech said their full GTX 1070 review will be up tomorrow, so hopefully they test this. It might be planned by NVIDIA, as they mentioned that GPU Boost 3.0 has specific water-cooling enhancements.

I just did more testing tonight and my GPU stays at 2100mhz boost if temp < 40c, then drop 12.5mhz per 3-5c increase. The lowest I seen in boost is 2037.5mhz when temperature reached 65C during Heaven 4.0.

Just bought the cheapest in my country GB WF2 1070 card, tested 3 of them all made 2100+/9500+ out of the box for benching, still testing them on AIR. Stock CPU while my PSU is for RMA redface.gif
Here are some results ...eagerly awaiting BIOS to avoid the PT, Vrel kicking constantly and the best core is set to 50% Voltage in XOC for 2138/51 ...what a shame not to use their potential...all air cooled , hot air actually here are summer heats with 37+*C outside and near 30 inside:D

Actually amazed by these small cut dies...

cool. smile.gif

yes, i need to research CPU, Mobo and RAM. i should be able to find something that would raise all around performance for pretty cheap.

wat i need is the most popular/ "bag-for-ur-buck" CPU, Mobo and RAM from say 2014, should be enough?
(i want to re-use my existing PSU, Case and even HSF if possible.)

then, i'd start shopping for the best "bag-for-ur-buck" of 2015 and buy it mid to late 2017.

suggestions, for best 2014 CPU, Mobo and RAM?

Tanks! smile.gif

I wish I could sell my older cards. They get passed down to the kids. One 670 will replace a 560ti and the other will replace a 6950. Then the 560ti will replace a 4850. The circle of life in my house. I have to many PC's.

I've been seeing some blower models pop up under $400...very tempting.

While I can't say for sure about other brands such as MSI and Gigabyte but Asus is DEFINITELY binning. Not being able to get these cards over 2000mhz or having a card that cant hold a stable clock is a kick in the nuts. Fortunately I am returning the regular strix and have a OC strix on order. Had to spend an extra 40$ but at least i'm guaranteed 2050mhz stable.

My EVGA 1070 FTW can only do 2025mhz, anything over it artifacts. Memory does hit 9200mhz without an issue. Also has loud coil whine!

Loud coil whine only occurs at high frame-rates correct?

If you lock frame-rate to 60FPS there's no coil whine? At least that's how it is for all of us.

Don't worry too much, hopefully these videocards get an unlocked BIOS, which would make the EVGA 1070 FTW by far the best option. Not only does it have a powerphase of 8+8 Pin but it has DUAL BIOS. Which will allow you to flash on one side without worrying too much about anything going wrong. And if anything goes wrong you can always switch back to the default BIOS.

thumb.gifthumb.gifthumb.gif

PS: How did you determine 2025MHz is the highest you can achieve?

Are you using MSI AfterBurner (latest BETA version)? What are your settings?
