The Xtreme Gaming fans are superbly quiet.

Even at 75% I can't hear it. I hear my CPU/Case fans over them.

+1 on the 144hz refresh rate. Once you get a high refresh rate monitor its hard to go back. I would try to find a cheap used Gsync monitor though. There are a few in the marketplace here for sale.

Man that's expensive lol. I know I was looking at around 300 to spend and that adds another 100 to the price of just the monitor. Is 144hz that Mich better than 60hz?

To me, 96 is noticeably better than 60. I'll have an opinion on 144 vs 96 this time tomorrow. wink.gif

Stepped up my EVGA 970 SSC ACX 2.0 to 1070 ACX 3.0!

Nothing fancy, simple mid-range gaming machine. Playing WoW and DOOM, just in time for Legion pre-patch roll-out.

why would one night gaming my gpu usage recorded with afterburner is very smooth and steady at 99% and then the next night it's a constant jumping up and down from 99% to 25% ?
It does this playing the same game with the same scenes and things going on in the game, it's American Truck Simulator if that can help answer my question.
and it doesn't affect game play, my fps are the same and no stuttering.

Hi guys new owner with an Asus GTX 1070 Turbo finally replaced my X-fire 7950's crazy how long those lasted. I can't really find any info out there on the Turbo's Pcb but does anyone know if any waterblocks are compatible with the Turbo?

Definitely a big visual gaming difference between 60fps @ 60hz vs 144fps @144hz. The amount of smoothness and clarity with graphical motion brings it closer to life-like, non-blurred motion. Besides looking great it will give you the advantage in multiplayer games which makes it easier to see enemies during fast motion, and decreases lag input times for a quicker reaction.

My figures are.

970 boosted to 1320 without throttling at stock TDP limit.
boosted to 1468 without throttling or artefacts with 240 watt TDP and higher voltages (heavily modded bios)
970 base speed is 1215 so a 105 o/c at stock TDP

My 1070 boosts to 2038 out of the box with stock speed of 1671 almost 400mhz.

NVIDIA has just the most inane specifications. Your Core Clock is what it should never go below during gaming (i.e., the bare minimum). The Boost Clock is the "low average" of what you should get in-game. Every card, however, has an average in-game boost much higher than "Boost Clock" even without overclocking (as long as you have good cooling). So, from what I have seen...you can just turn the TDP limit up and the Temp limit up and the card will "auto OC" itself (by just boosting up very high, much higher than Boost Clock would suggest). However, like you noticed, NVIDIA doesn't boost much past 2050MHz on its own. If you want more, that's when you need to OC.
So, wait. You've *directly* tested this? You've looked at your maximum boost clock at 45C versus 75C? It's identical? I think very few people have cards that are 1) at 100% load (to activate maximum boost) and 2) only at 45C. You need to test that.

What you (and JaysTwoCents) are talking about is traditional TDP / temperature throttling. That hasn't changed. Yes, at 100% TDP, you'll throttle. Yes, at 83C, you'll throttle.
Great points. BF4 is notorious for "body-checking" overclocks. I had to go down 50MHz on my GTX 770 to get it stable in BF4 versus other stability tests / games. And true. Even with GPU Boost 3.0's additional throttling, at best, it's 65MHz. That's 3%! At 60FPS, that's barely 2FPS. 60FPS to 62FPS. Whoop de doo. Hahaha. But, technically, this is OCN, "the pursuit of performance". tongue.gif
1. Your first question has many answers and I'm unsure which throttling you're talking about. What is the temp limit set at?

2. Are you adding more than 13MHz? Each frequency jump is always 13MHz apart. So, you need to try at least 2063MHz before it'll change, I think.

Whenever I game I am always testing smile.gif

OSD is on pretty much all the time and eyes keep wondering to look at whats going on. smile.gif

So to verify

100% load.
No throttling unless close to TDP limit.
The cooler is a beast and the voltages are low on pascal so these two things comined has meant my temps typically dont go over 60C even in the summer we in now, and highest I have seen is 62C but I dont mind forcing the fans to a low speed to see what happens when it goes over 70C.

On jayz video other than drops of one speed bin, he only had throttles when within 5C of the temp limit or within 10% or so of the TDP. The claims you posted are that the card throttles when its like 40C or so below the temp target which makes no sense at all.
