[Official] NVIDIA GTX 1070 Owner's Club - Page 18

Yeah, felt that the x80 are a bit much. Last one I bought at retail was a 480, then I started buying second hand cards until now. But SLI would be nice if you are running anything higher than 1440p from what I have read. And looking at reviews for SLI shows that it will still be limited per game title.

Just ordered myself a Gigabyte 1070 for $400 USD! Finally a reasonably priced 1070, it's like $20 cheaper than the next cheapest 1070 and it's better too.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125875

Should be like a 1070 G1 but minus a fan and some RGB gimmicks. Can potentially overclock just as well with same power delivery as G1 and thermals aren't an issue with Pascal.

I wasn't planning on getting a 1070 but RX480 won't deliver this level of performance, who knows when Vega will be released, and I'm not getting a 980 Ti for the exact same price.
At $400, only $20 over MSRP, this card is the first 1070 that isn't kinda bull**** price-wise and it's been available to purchase for the first time only like 24 hours ago.
So ya got me Nvidia.

The only way I'll regret this card is IF people find a way to actually take advantage of more than a single 8-pin on Pascal with custom BIOS, at this point it's literally pointless from what I've seen.
1x 8-pin 1070's and 1080's OC just as well as 8+6 pin 1070's and 1080's and nothing OC's any better than a Founders Edition. It's retarded.
Pascal OC's are 100% determined on the silicon lottery and just get whatever is cheapest is what I've gathered, every card has the same odds at the lottery so far.

Good going. That's definitely a killer price. Let us know how it runs when you get it. thumb.gif

I think you'll have more than enough cooling capacity with that card, particularly if you use a custom fan profile. I have the Gigabyte G1 and with the fan profile I set it levels off at 60C after hours of playing. It's more cooling capacity than I need. I'll see how it does when my second card arrives on Monday but I'm not expecting it to be a problem. I think you made the smart move going with the 2 fan $400 version.

I'm curious to find out how GPU Boost 3.0 and throttling works this time around, it's hard to find information.
Maxwell throttled back clocks and voltages at a mere 68c.

Also, things that previously required a BIOS edit to accomplish are now capable in OC utilities.
You are able to configure GPU Boost 3.0's voltage to frequency curve in EVGA XOC for example, seems neat and literally 0 people are talking about it for some reason.
http://www.evga.com/precisionxoc/
I can't find anything on whether or not GPU Boost 3.0 is an improvement, or more restrictive, whether throttling is enforced early or customizable or anything.
Nobody is talking about it yet everyone has to deal with it when overclocking so I don't understand.
Guess I'll find out...

Is there true?! FE's OC better than the other AIBs?

If people are able to getting modded BIOS working to OC better, I didn't get a card that will benefit too greatly from it since it's only a single 8-pin is what I'm saying.
It would be more beneficial to have a 8+6pin which could have a BIOS mod to actually take advantage of the extra power, which I won't have.

I didn't mean the FE's OC better than all the AIB's, I mean they all have equal overclocking capability. Custom AIB's with super coolers and more power pins do not overclock any better, they are equal.
Which isn't how things should be, but it's how it is.
The MSI GTX 1080 Gaming X with its 8+6 and superior cooler overclocks no better than an FE.

Guys, I am disappointed with 1070 G1 gaming from gigabyte..
It overclocks about the same as my previous founders edition from ASUS but it is way louder

That's another reason I went ahead and got the Founder's Edition. The 1070 I have is actually quieter than the GTX 780 w/ reference cooler, and it's much faster. Not everyone likes it, but I think the Nvidia reference cooler on these Pascal cards is actually pretty good.

How is that even possible? The fans must be better than the reference fan, and even if they were worse you have 3 instead of 1 so you could do much lower RPM.
Your fan curve must be super aggressive.
I dont know, they are so loud I can hear them spinning all three of them, that air noise is simply crazy they are like small turbines spinning up in games
FE was much quieter overall TBH.
Maybe I will play with fan curve or something but I think it is stupid that out of the box it is louder than reference isn't it ?
