Order a higher end binned card. Or go reference that's your best luck. Zotac amp extreme, gigabyte xtreme gaming, I'd guess evga ftw and that's probably the one I'd shoot for since the price isn't crazy. The zotac option is quite reasonable as well. Or go reference, you won't have any issues with reference. Its not near as loud as the AMD fanboys make it out to be. Even with a little custom curve to keep it in the 70s the noise won't even be noticeable.

Sorry buddy but you seem pretty late to the party, i have considered all these cards and have spoken with all their manufacturers, price is not an issue here, the AMP! Extreme, GB Xtreme and EVGA FTW .. have ALL lately switched to Micron since August ... not a single card of these uses Samsung GDDR5 anymore, look at all the recent GPU-Z screenshots for these cards in this thread and you will see all are damn Micron !

if it was that easy i would have not been so desperate for help .. the only card remaining that uses Samsung is the reference cards that have been manufactured pretty early ... smile.gif

How about Asus? I bought my strix not too long ago and it came with Samsung. A friend very recently got the turbo and confirmed it was Samsung. However I cannot confirm if those were from older batches or not. Actually I think the turbo cards are based very similarly to the FE editions so they might still be using Samsung chips.

Maybe Samsung can't spit out enough chips? Or is Micron cheaper or they need to buy more from Micron because the GDDR5x volume of buying is too low so they buy GDDR5?
I've had a few cards before and yeah the Samsung memory chips are the ones to go for really. Dunno why even Micron is only on par with Hynix, Elpida when it comes to speed when they can do GDDR5x... maybe their GDDR5x is not as fast as it could be if Samsung made it.

Samsung GDDR5 runs 9GHz fine most of the time, even more if the core or VRAM can both handle it.

If you have a card with faulty or moody VRAM by design even on stock clocks then by advice is to get rid of it ASAP, return it, get your money back. I've had one and the random crap unstable VRAM causes is difficult to pin point at first but once you put it all together downclock the VRAM etc. suddenly these random issues and apps crashing goes away.

In EU, buy, test for 2 weeks, return if you don't like it.

Dam they must have changed their ways. Back in the 6xx and 7xx series days of u ordered a binned chip like the AMP edition it was always Samsung chips. Anyway to tell the manufactured date on the box ? If not just buy a founders edition of they are guaranteed samsung. Your not going to be upset about the noise. Even if it's audible it will be slight and very smooth. Your making me want to go buy a second wf2 oc at my local shop because I know it's first batch (bought it and returned it cuz my motherboard fried the same day and it was 1 or the other)...

Also what card do you have ? I heard there was a bad batch of cards that went out from msi and someone else that they were recalling a few weeks back. Think I read it on tweaktown.

Oh man, i had the July Strix OC with Samsung memory, how much i loved that card, flawless, stable, quality and an OC champ, i had to let it go thinking that the next one will be exactly the same, got two other Strix 1070s one in August and one this month and both came with Micron and i can't hate them enough, i returned one last week and have one left now, i feel it is poisoning my system and want to get it out of the system ASAP .. this is why i am asking for replacement recommendations ...

iChill x3 is the same card without that extra little fan so go for that one if possible

Do you think i can tolerate its noise and heat? my current Strix runs at 66c while OCed and i can't hear it (except for the coil whine lol) ... the FE on same settings is expected to reach 83c ... do you think i can take it? smile.gif

no plan to water cool, coz FE price + water block price = near 1080 price .. so not very good value, also do you believe that the reference cooler is durable enough, like can it last 2 or 3 years, and how can i clean it? since i have a pretty dusty environment and never tried an FE before .. what will the experience be like?

Also what FE brand should i go with? i think in this case EVGA for the warranty?

Sorry too many questions smile.gif
