An open case doesn't mean that you have a good airflow, sometimes it even hinders the airflow.

It can be that your G1 had a cooling problem, but this card normally working has an almost as good cooling as my STRIX has.

(sorry for the German link, but the graphics are self explaining.)

Edit: How many case fans do you have?

For sure. You can rest assured that I'll keep you posted. tongue.gif Damn, I remember my previous build (3570k, GTX 780) when overclocked, could peak at around 500w (Burn-in) Now, having EVERYTHING connected to my Kill-a-watt (Monitors, router, and all else) draws at max like less than 350w. I may differ from a lot of people here, in that what I really get excited about is power efficiency. I get excited about seeing how low I can go. I'm idling currently at ~150w. That is incredible to me thinking of all of this drawing the power of only 2 or 3 60w incandescent light bulbs. All of it. laughingsmiley.gif

MSI Gaming X or EVGA SC Thoughts on difference between this two? Which card will cause me less problems ? ( no coil whine, fans, latency issues ) I know that evga comes with micron now frown.gif but i hope that nvidia's new bios fix this

What in your opinion ? smile.gif Thanks again guys

zero. One actually but i've disable it. I don't look at decibels.. all cards have roughly the same 39dcb when i looked at reviews. I mean those figures don't vary much while irl it is a big difference. decibels is a weird scale for measuring "loudness". It is a unit of pressure. But from 100 to 1001 decibels it's a much much biger jump than from 20 to 21 dcb... it does not scale linearly...

as for the fans, i have zero fans except gpu and cpu.. there is nothing stopping the air from flowing. Side of the case is nicely opened so the air has a free path. When i get a new GPU i'll do a test with smoke to see the deal but i doubt the air is trapped

Judging by this list, all cards sound pretty much the same. I mean, if you showed this to some layperson, like my mother, she would probably say they are all pretty much the same, whereas you and me both know that r9 290x is much much louder card than G1 Gaming, despite list stating 290x is 43DBa and G1 42DBa...

Okay, now i am playing Quantum Break (great game BTW) , have +200 memory on driver 372.90 , 1440p was going good, increased the resolution to 4K and after a while of playing i started seeing red flashing artifacts, so it looks like the applications that manage to fill most of the available vRAM like rotTR or QB @ 4K the Micron memory chip starts showing its true color smile.gif

Yes, gtx 1070 3 fan cooler cards are all on some very good level.
That is my point.

Your G1 was ruining way to hot in your system. So either the card itself was defective regarding the cooling, something pretty unlikely, your room temperature is pretty high or you system cooling is not optimal.
It's of course entirely your decision if you look after that, but if I'm right the AMP! Extreme will not run any cooler than the G1 did.

My Strix runs from 66c to 71c on the default fan curve depending on load, OC or not, power target etc ... i tested with 100% fan yesterday and it stayed at 54c after 10 minutes of continuous load, i saw a guy with the same exact card hitting 81c , so there are some samples out there that seem to have the cooler not making perfect contact with the die or the thermal compound is not applied properly, in an open case you should have the perfect airflow because the ambient air is not being restricted in any way, if you getting such high temps in an open case then i would consider an RMA or re-seating the cooler with new thermal compound application but that could void the warranty on some cards that have anti-intrusion markings on the screws.

I just found out that the EVGA GTX 1070 FTW Hybrid is coming to stock in my market in less than two weeks, if anyone has that or can find reviews about it would be great, if only that card comes with Samsung then it would probably be the best 1070 around, i am afraid to ask EVGA about what type of memory this one comes with and get the "we can not guarantee the memory type" kind of response, am just tired of getting the same response from manufacturers so we probably have to find out on our own.

This is a new production it seems, and maybe, i mean maybe after that Micron memory fiasco EVGA has made up its mind to use Samsung on its top of the line 1070 ...

What do you guys think about that card?
