It will require some anti-anti-aliasing in some titles, but it's a high enough resolution that AA becomes less relevant.

Going to try and search to see if I can find some benchmarks done with your CPU with newer cards.

EDIT: Not finding much, but it seems that even something like a 2500K would be less of an actual bottleneck for the card. However, I would just do a lot of testing in your normal usage before making the plan to upgrade blindly. You should see a huge jump regardless, but I wouldn't say your CPU is irrelevant just yet.

I suppose I shouldn't be surprised, it has been nearly a decade of CPU tech progress.
I don't think any of the games I have are very cpu dependent, except Ashes which is why I included that one. It's still completely fluid gameplay and the CPU is only taxed ~30%.

I spent $70 on a X5670 a few months ago and just got a 1070: http://www.3dmark.com/fs/8937271

That a huge jump!
What all did you have to do when you got the Xeon?
I'm eye-balling a few on ebay.

Edit: I have a Asus Sabertooth X58, doesn't show the Xeon's are supported, but they should still work right?

With any luck (and one day shipping) it will be here this week. Glad I held out, I almost canceled my order yesterday to buy a 980Ti. Now whether Amazon is getting enough to actually have inventory or just fill all/some pre-orders, who knows?

cool. only 6 more days.smile.gif

i wish they would speed up my delivery.

hoping they give me a more precise estimate too; within 6 days before delivery like urs would be nice.

(i ordered (2) ASUS Strix on June 26 from Amazon. (7 days after u ordered.) My current arrival estimation is 15 to 21 more days. But they always said it could be earlier.)

You'll have to check for your particular motherboard (pretty sure I remember the Sabertooth working) but usually you just need to make sure you have the latest BIOS (or new enough that they added support for the Xeon chips) and it should drop in and just work. Overclocking is a bit different than with your i7 since they're on different processes (45nm for your i7, 32nm for the Westmere Xeon chips). I think I saw you post in the huge Xeon thread so you've already found a great resource.

Ya they say my Sabertooth is supported.
Definitely will need to check the bios. Should be updated, but it was a while back when I put in that board. Probably 2010-2011.

That thread is great, wealth of information, just a lot to sift through.

Just trying to find the chip I want at a decent price.

Need to back my SSD up too.

I'm guessing that will sort out my graphics score (still confused on why test 1 is so low) and obviously my physics/combines scores.

Firestrike Graphics score of 14322 after my 1st round of overclocking: http://www.3dmark.com/fs/9138795

Settings below:

GPU Z:

2050MHz when boosting during Firestrike:

Now I feel like it's overclocking pretty well without much tinkering. I set the fan curve for aggressive which helped and it's still quiet compared to my Hyper 212+ CPU cooler.

Now for the questions.
My overall firestrike score is pretty dismal compared to everyone else's.
Partly because of my old i7 920 CPU OC'ed to 3.8GHz. That's dropping my physics and combined categories pretty bad.

But also my FPS drops pretty low in the 1st graphics test for some reason, which is impacting that score a lot.

I did not do a clean driver install, not sure if that will help.

Any suggestions folks?

Edit 1:
-Ran Doom on ultra, maxed out AA, motion blur low, averaging around 100fps. Usually sits much higher than that.
-Ran Ashes of the Singularity on Crazy, DX12, averaging 60fps or so, I think the CPU is to blame for that lower FPS.
-This is all with 1 monitor at 1080p.

Edit 1:
-Added Heaven score below, still looks low compared to everyone's scores. CPU to blame?
-Heaven was showing 2088MHz also, but Precision was showing closer to 2000.

I own the same CPU but my mobo only supports PCIe v2.0 so yours too maybe?
I've read earlier in this thread someone that had his card running is PCIe 2.0 mode and he was getting low scores as well.

I think that was x2 instead of x16, I wouldn't think there is that much of a difference between PCIe 2.0 and 3.0 (you can see mine is 2.0 in GPUZ).
