Nice! Welcome to the 21k club biggrin.gif

The Zotac won't fit in my case. Its between the G1 and Strix. I'm leaning towards Strix because I have an Asus board. I only have 2 DP monitors, but the loss of a 3rd DP on the Strix has be a smidge nervous for future options.

If the display supports it, will the 1070 output 4K 60Hz over HDMI?

I'm determined there is either a weird stock fan profile for the 1070 G1 or that airflow is a big issue. I've seen 2 or 3 people on here now report 80C+ temps for their's on here. The 1080 is a hotter running card and at 50% fan speed, I'm not hitting above 72C max. If your ambient temps aren't something crazy, and your airflow is adequate, then you may have a bad card? I've seen most user's report back that a better fan curve or sorting their airflow was the solution.

Since GPU boost came about, people have confused 'throttling' and 'variable clocks' with each and it's become almost synonymous on the forums.

Apparently new drivers, I haven't tested them yet. So I don't know if they fix the high DPC latency issues:

http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=408708

Edit make sure you read the comments too if you want to install them you're going to need the modded inf file.

I'm not free to test right now.

Blackfyre, it seems they are useful for mobile gpus, also Manuel G. said that new driver will appear later this weak. To be fair i havn't experinced any problems beside DPC latency with 368.39 so far (overwatch, diablo 3, cs).

Did some more benchmarking last night. Managed to get to +175 (2067-2088 max boost) +750 on the memory and got this score. http://www.3dmark.com/fs/9309399

I still think with bios mod or better knowledge of the freq/voltage curve I could do better. For some reason the card rarely goes over 1000mv and anything over +175 on core gives me artifacting. It's still a good OC though so I can't really complain.

I was running the fans at 100% and they are very audible over 60-70% but the good news is with an ambient of 29-30c (canadian heat wave) the card never went over 55c during the runs. During the winter that would be around 45-50c max temps which is insane. I have crazy temperature headroom with this card but cant do anything about it because of the stupid voltage limit. frown.gif

My fan curve is oriented twords silence. The max is 60% and it climbs very slowly. Will increasing the fan speed make a difference ? My ambient temps are also quite high, 26, 27°C.
Curious thing is that the gtx670 windforce x3 i replaced never went over 65*C in exactly the same circumstances.
Does the 1070 use so much more power ?

I believe the 1070 has a lower TDP than the 670, if I remember my 670 correctly. It is possible that there is an issue with your particular card, maybe the machine that squirts the TIM ran out on your card.

Have you considered removing the heatsink to check things out?

Very much this, a lot of people misunderstand how it works. Throttling would be a clock speed lower than the rated boost speed, on an FE card that would be anything below 1683mhz.

Two pages back was a guy saying that the card throttles at 45c.

It's not throttling in the traditional meaning. GPU boost varies based on how much headroom there is. As your temps rise the headroom shrinks and so does the amount of boost.

It appears for Pascal this first "step" is 48*c, then 54*c... so on and so forth

It has become so common to use the word throttling but unfortunately it confuses new Nvidia owners. Those of us that have been around this block a few times understand the difference, but for someone coming from an AMD card "throttling" has a whole different meaning.
