A GTX 1080 is not overkill for what I'm using it for? (1440p)

1080 is perfect if you can get one at a good price. It is not quite enough for 4K, you need a TI for that for the majority of games. The more powerful the card, the longer the time before obsolescence.

Now that you have it, GTA is only a single game and a single 1070 lets it run at a respectable rate anyway so I would not worry about it too much. I know that stutter problems have been solved by disabling the shader cache in other systems but that was not specifically an SLI fix, that also helped with stutters in single card systems as well.

Other games work OK out of the box. Some of the ones that don't can be tweaked and made work. Remember SLI has four different modes it can run in that you can change in the nvidia inspector. The best mode to use depends on the game engine and the way the card is coded. Did you try each of the different modes?
Well, as i said before i have a TitanXP build locked in storage and the only reason i got this Laptop is to be able to move it around in a single Backpack. I checked bunch of games and most work just fine with SLI and run @ 4K , GTAV is one of the favorites and it just pissed me off rolleyes.gif. Also changed options in NVIDIA Control Panel and played with Profile Inspector but i cant find any Modes in Nvidia Inspector other than Performance level 0-4 and mine is set to 4

I understand the reasons why a laptop is desirable. I have one for the same reasons and the reason why I prefaced my answer with the acknowledgement that it is a laptop.

The thing is, people are recommending a single card as being better for just the reasons that you are seeing for yourself now. I think that with SLI,  you have to accept that it will not always work but you are getting the benefit of more power most of the time.

the nvidia profile inspector software is different to the nvidia control panel, the inspector panel has some shared setting. what it gives you is direct access to the Nvidia driver. there is an option called sli compatibility bits somewhere in the list. It was near the top. Assasin's creed or dark souls options in that setting

IDK why Nvidia doesn't put more effort into SLi functionality. It still benches great, but in-game performance gains seem to drop with each generation.

this is the second generation i've skipped buying 2x flagships from since 480. The last one was 9xx

I'm returning my 2nd 1070, n selling the first one, in exchange fora used 1080ti, which will sit all by its' lonesome due to how pathetic SLi has become.

my first post here smile.gif i am so glad 2 finally register on this forum...first of all tnx to all of you guys here from across the globe smile.gif
for making possible 2 overclock and hunt for performance with yours advices and competency altough..somewhere little more and somewhere little less smile.gif eng language is not my native resolution smile.gif and therefore i am sorry for gramma and blablabla smile.gif

Following instructions in this thread i manage with AB tweaks on my 1070FE first stock bios, to get stable 1940-1988 with samsung mem +700
having all 5 profiles active on AB i manage 2 just lowering temps when i feel it is going 2 hot acctually just lowering the mem..and set the higher freq.....and yeah my card is running last year and a half or 2 (i cant even remember smile.gif time is but a window smile.gif ) very hot for standards on this thread 75-82,3,4c. and acctually on my last ctrl F on 925 voltage temp maxd 78 (i am close 2 central heating radiator in my room so in winter is hot and i live on the last floor in my building so in summer is hot i hate AC..so it is always hot in here smile.gif )
with no problems at all...my rig is z170 with nonK 6700 on 4.5 and 16gigs of 2666stock boosted on 3200..playin dota and csgo mainly,on 2k native 144hz easy if you dont mind the temps smile.gif
i was having an issue before with my psu and some crackling noise..so i just underclock the card 2 solve it..acctually i did it and then i change my psu and able to put my FE to max potencial, and my conclusion is like..everybody need 2 buy a FE after a couple of months from release date bcs you can save the money and diffrence from others cards is marginal..bsc if 100 euro or usd for example is worth 2100freq instead of 1950 then go for it smile.gif
and also watercoolin like you get your temps low and then wat? you are firmly on 2100 and i am droped like -12 --24 -36 from 2000freq..another 50euro or usd for what,like...3fps? tottaly 150...maybe 1080ti wink.gif and biggest noncense for me is that spymark or graphic score idk the exact name of these programs, like i need to give some money to download a program that will show that i am able to clock the card on 2600 and your not smile.gif and where is actually that point when you start a favorite game and just play it...who gives a .... about your GS and your big glassed shiny case. just a little observation biggrin.gif
and all that trend like my mem kit need 2 glow..and my case is like that so anybody can see a full spectar of collors..cmnn...2 be honest my case is cover with dust wink.gif
i know this is a little bit radical thinking from majority here..but than it is boring if wee all thinking the same smile.gif
and yeah what happend with that TI bios? that is the only bios that i will use on my FE if it is possibleand if it can acctually put some performance on regular 1070..
and 1 more time sincere apologies for gramma and i dont wanna insult anybody here...lova ya guys..keep up with good work!

Sort of for 1440p @ 60 FPS, but not for high refresh rate.

The EK waterblock Backplate fits without any modifications on the original FE-heatsink smile.gif

img_2656wuutd.jpg img_2658yru0t.jpg img_2662znui9.jpg img_2663z5u3t.jpg

... for those which wants to change the boring OEM-backplate and cooling the backside of the VRM.

My EVGA GTX 1070 FE is actually flashed with the EVGA GTX 1070 Hybrid-BIOS - both cards got the reference PCB.
It is ~90 Mhz more than the Stock FE-BIOS.
The GPU clock is at 1595 Mhz and the card will boost up to 1987-2000 Mhz.

The GPU clock of a ASUS GeForce GTX 1070 8GB DRAGON TOP is at 1670 Mhz, but i'm a bit to scared to do this crossflash.

Is there an another recommend BIOS which boost higher then 2000 Mhz ?

Well, so far its a single game that i have to run @ 1080p on a Single 1070 , "GTAV" i think i'll live biggrin.gif
