People worrying about GMO's smh. We have been modifying crops for centuries. Our crops today maybe only vaguely resemble what they were even 500 years ago.

And for us that think roses are perfectly fine the way they are? Why do we have to give up our roses for your gmo junk?

So they can put a patent on a flower (which should be illegal) and earn money (so they can eat their money when apocalypse comes)

And for those of us who dislike the fact they die so quickly? Why should we put up with a failure when we have the ability to improve it?

I don't care one way or the other, I'm not a flower guy, but since when is "I like it fine now" an excuse to force everyone else to not mess with stuff? They aren't going to replace every rose ever, you can keep your own garden going.

So if modifying plant genetics in a specific way should not be something you can patent, regardless if it's your design that your R&D team made, that applies to only the version of the plant that results from said modifications and not all versions of that plant...

I was going to ask a question but I got lost. They are not patenting a flower. They are patenting their process and changes to the flower.

Not GMO's in the traditional way we see them now. More along the lines of "selective breeding" with plants.

Really more or less (as far as I'm concerned) the same or similar to genetically modifying plants. I would be open to discussion (on topic)
about this, because I am certainly no expert. This is just my understanding, based on what I personally know, and I won't claim that I am 100 percent right, on this.

Actually, yes. The first time we used selective breeding or cross-breeding of plant species for a more favorable result.. bam, we have this. We do the same thing now all the time, however big companies like this can cheat a bit and go directly into genetic alterations. We took a very old idea and process and just use modern technology to make it more efficient.

What you're using now to read and post here... same deal. Papyrus and an abacus became what we have here today. biggrin.gif

Also, before the crazy people start commenting about GMO everything is going to destroy us, lets try to not care anymore at this point and just enjoy the pretty. This isn't food we are talking about, just pretty, keep it civil please. wheee.gif

You mean crazy as in angry here, right? Couldn't possibly mean insane and then later request we "keep it civil".

I'm hard pressed to come up with a more shady and evil company than Monsanto, can't summon a single positive emotion here, sorry.
