Well I do understand the disappointment, but the actual performance loss is minimal is it not?

I mean, we all know that with smaller processes comes a lower max voltage. Nvidia's 1.25V lock is clearly there to stop nutty overclockers frying their chips. No voltage mod nor any amount of LN2 is going to get around the fact that transistors have a max theoretical voltage, after which they have a very high chance of shorting.

And 1600mhz to ~2050mhz is a totally acceptable OC and is almost exactly the same % increase the 980TI sees.

It's still new. I bet they get it sorted with BIOS tweaks in time.

If I pay for it, i have the right to "fry" it.

I don't need nVidia's protection. Stupid excuse for the lock.

Not like anyone was going to be able to RMA a card with another PCB soldered onto it.

LOL

Watch all custom coolers release and everyone finds out the card maxes out at 2100 mhz. I am calling it now...

LOL...it's not 3.5 gb fiasco, but it might a NICE "middle ground" between it thumb.gif

I wouldn't be surprised

Pretty sure the reference 980 ti's and 980's were getting within 100mhz of the high end AIB's last gen too, classified etc, so it's really not that much different

I also have Strix 970s that are actually very nice cards. I basically can't hear them at all over my other fans running at 800rpm. It really take a good few minutes before the fans turn of at all. When I start up fallout 4 at 2560x1440 only one of the cards fans typically turns on until the case starts to warm up more. I think I get around 1475 on the core clocks.

As far as the GTX 1080s go I think the Strix is the best looking but I will be using EVGA this time around because the triple fan set ups are a little too long for me to use without moving my res and pump.
