I have industrial quality Noctua fans in my case that I run on manual control power controller, and when I move it to max...it sounds EXACTLY like that....

It's bad...REAL bad....

I have no idea if the card EVER needs to be at that level of fan usage, but this is scary loud.

said it from the get go

buy the cheapest 1080 u can get ur hands on doesnt matter if its the cooler is made out of plastic bags

remove the cooler and put a waterblock on it = 99.99% of performance of any card which has the same chip

And 1600mhz to ~2050mhz is a totally acceptable OC and is almost exactly the same % increase the 980TI sees.

1600?

It boosts to like 1800 out of the box lol

The STRIX has really cheap/basic fans that will make a lot of noise. You see how plain and simple the fan blades are? Zero effort went into the STRIX cooler. Avoid.

it's not just the strix, Seems that pascal is so highly clocked, that lost any headroom for overclocking, even with custom cards.

Here is the OC capabilities of a stock 1080 FE

http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/nvidia_geforce_gtx_1080_review,29.html

Now, the OC capabilities of the MSI gaming with extra power phases, custom pcb, 8+6 power connector and better cooling than the FE

http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/msi_geforce_gtx_1080_gaming_x_8g_review,38.html

I wouldn't be surprised if the classifieds overclocks the same as the FE

I also ordered a strix 1080 but this is freaking insane loud and I want my **** to be quiet, so I can game while gf is sleeping. Like what the hell should I go for. After seeing this flight engine in the works im leaning towards the evga hybrid. I need an upgrade from my 970 which cant pull through on 3440x1440 gaming.

I'm not going to buy 1080 until August. Just decided.

Going to Europe for vocation, I will wait for the smoke to settle and actually have stuff to chose from.

No more refreshing websites and none of that crap, just to buy GTX 1080. Going to wait for all the reviews to come in and
MAKE AN ACCURATE DECISION

Why not try it for yourself first? The microphone in the video may be slightly more responsive to the frequency of sound the strix was producing, and perhaps the auto fan curve is more aggressive than it needs to be. Get it and test it first, if it ends up not meeting your needs you can probably send it back, or buy something else and sell it.

it throttles down to the base clock after 10-15 mins depending on where you live
