Same card, same issue - certainly not worth the hassle of trying to return it (via RMA since there aren't any 1080s in stock at Microcenter to swap it out with).

The PSU actually reviews pretty well and has given me no issues in the 4 years I've had it and the many graphics cards I've run on it until now, although I'm not ruling it out. At least one review notes a greater-than-average drop on +12v which could be related. I might try a new PSU anyway but I've been out of the game for a while - any suggestions to get me started?

I think he was being sarcastic. Seasonic is about as good as it gets for PSUs.

Could be, I wasn't sure. Seasonic used to be really good back in the day (the best?) but has apparently started rebranding stuff from other manufacturers. Regardless, it seems to be an issue primarily with the 1080 seeing as quite a few people are have issues with a variety of PSUs.

EDIT: Definitely sarcasm  But I have heard from people who dislike Seasonic for whatever reason.

Nothing earth-shattering but definitely noticeable.

Same with my giga g1, its really luck of the draw if your coils are going to whine, it's been this way forever.

Why don't they test the coils/chokes or w/e before putting them in the graphics card ? Wouldn't that be cheaper than having tons of RMAs because of this ?

Having to play russian roulette with expensive hardware sucks..

Waiting for my MSI 1080 8G Gaming to come back from RMA sure is fun..

How can be possible all Pascal family Founders and Custom have this problem ?

I think pretty much all 1080 GTX FE or custom has some sort of coil whine. With time it usually goes away.

Got a 1080 FTW a few days ago that buzzes like crazy under load. I don't have a recording but it's identical sounding to this guy's card https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yF5sx7HXuSY. I exchanged 4 980ti's for the same problem (mix of Gigabyte and EVGA cards). Never found a good one just decided to live with it.

I've tried different power supplies (currently running an EVGA 850P2), bought a power conditioner to make sure it wasn't crappy wiring in my house, and even switched motherboards. Changed clock speeds, ran stress tests overnight, capped FPS at 60 blah blah all the stuff people suggest. I honestly can't believe it. I NEVER had a problem like this until the 9xx series cards.

So damn annoying. Guess I'll try MSI next?

If graphics card makers could make a card with no coil wine I'm sure it would be a big selling point. Imagine that a card with no annoying whine as a design feature... I bet it would sell big time.

Can't believe this is a big issue in 2016 just not good enough at all. And considering some of these cards cost a lot of money it is not unreasonable to expect a better quality product.

Very high frame rates seem to be one of the main causes, limiting to 60FPS can fix it but not always. Menu screens seem to do it and I find it so annoying it is unacceptable.

I have a super quiet card, a bit old now but am a bit hesitant to upgrade as the dreaded whine will kill all enjoyment...
