GTX 1080 Coil whine? - Page 9

When I had a Corsair HX1050, I had coil whine on Gigabyte 970s that I had only in very high fps situations (start of a game video or menu).
Since I moved to an EVGA PSU, I have not had any issues. That Corsair HX1050 was a piece of junk.

I only get Coil whine on my GTX 1080 during Benchmarks and in some games but it is very brief in game. i will say the coil whine during benchmarking is alot louder than my 980 ti but i do have a fairly high overclock on the 1080.

Does coil whine give white noise as well?

I just connected to the internet via wireless and i had my adapter laying on top of my pc and i got horrible, horrible results. Moved it away from the pc and the capacity got normalized. Probably related to EMI from the coils?

I prefer wired connections for obvious reasons, but when I do use a wireless adapter (Belkin N300 USB adapter), I haven't had any trouble with interference. I doubt it makes a difference, but my PC in open-air as well, so the adapter sits right on top of all the components with no shielding from a case. No problems whatsoever.

Yeah i use wired myself, i just use the WIFI when i need a little more speed by connecting to another network... 12gb Doom update.

I know for a fact that my shielded ASUS ST picks up a lot of interferrence while using Teamspeak when the GPU is under heavy load, though it was way worse with the EVGA SC. Been through 2 1080s from different makers and i'm starting to wonder how widespread the problems are and if it is worth returning this one as well. Have a sneaking suspicion that the white noise i hear is coming from the GPU.

If you are getting white noise from your speakers/headset when plugged in to you internal sound card, it's not surprising. It is probably worth investing in an external DAC/amplifier with a USB connection to get rid of white noise or hiss. Many people experience this problem. I haven't had an issue with my X99 motherboard, but I did on my old P67 with a 2600K. Once I switched to a USB DAC, I never had a problem again.

The white noise is out in the open, like with an old CRT.

*edit* took out the gpu, white noise was not from the gpu, but EMI that ruined the WIFI disappeared.

I got the MSI Gaming X in the mail today. Happy to report it's much quieter than my FTW. There's a small amount of buzzing but it's barely noticeable with the side panels on. With some break in it should hopefully be silent!
