A $199 980-equivalent destroys the resale value of all the old AMD/Nvidia cards (and really messes up AMD's product line-up, if they truly have nothing faster).

Heat and noise (and power consumption ofc)?! I can totally see some ppl would do that. But we won't have that performance for 200$ anyway.

Apple's A9X is 150mm squared SOC CPU/GPU combo and cost to produce that was 22$ each chip when adding up every factor.

That means a 200mm squared chip, a year later, should be around 30$ a chip (p10)

Do with that info as you will, the board probably costs 20-30$, including VRMs as low power means less of them

RAM probably the most expensive thing at around 60$ as GDDR5 has lowered in price substantially.

put it all together, you get a cost of around 120$.

You can factor in marketing and everything else that you want to. But this card is all about expanding AMD's marketshare.

Depends on how much went into Polaris specifically and period of time.

Their total R&D budget has only been ~250m/qtr for the last 5 and <300m/qtr the last 10.

R/D costs were absorbed by the deals they signed with sony, ms, apple, china, etc.

R480 200$ at 390x performance
RX 480 250$ at fury performance

I'm calling it, If I'm way off you can PM me saying "haha, you were wrong"
