[VideoCardz] Rumour: AMD Radeon RX 480 specifications leaked - Page 4

The 680 looked good initially, because of good marketing, which included fooling reviewers and consumers.

The ONLY thing I've found my 680 to be good for is that it has survived multiple calamitous system self-destructs without taking damage. Had a cat pee on the twin G34 I keep in the garage and the only things that survived were the cpu's and the 680... and the 680 is WHERE it peed on it. Fried a USB3 card, sound card, PCI (no e) intel 4 port gigabit... all sorts of dead on that board including 3/4 of the 64gb of ram.

Used foaming aircon cleaning spray and a shop vac to clean the gigabyte sink and put it back to work.

Mostly it runs f@h since its a remote access box... sitting in the garage in Florida without aircon XD

Definitely a tough card.

If its 250 around 280x and 380x prices then it will be a solid card for gtx980 performance. Plus one 6 pin = 120ish watts.

Seems quite risky to plan not to compete with the competition... At the moment Nvidia seems to have all tiers covered with 1060 (rumoured), 1070 and 1080, and 1080ti (rumoured) if they need to.

Just their marketing?

Or by releasing rock solid cards as well?

Fermi was a disaster and they still managed to bounce back big time with Kepler, mainly because they were awesome cards, not because they built an awesome marketing campaign around it.

We don't know if the RX480 is the highest tier they have. We should know in a few more hours.

The issue is folks and rumor sites setting themselves up for disappointment. If this all pans out and AMD can effectively hit the $199-$225 mark, they should have an absolute slam dunk on their hands.

The funny is when cards have two 8pin connectors, the extra grounds on the second connector are useless.

no
"Even though the specification allows for a delivery capability of 75 W (six-pin connector) or 150 W (eight-pin connector), the total power-handling capacity of these connectors is at least 192 and 288 W, respectively, using standard terminals, and even more using the HCS or Plus HCS terminals."

I am saying the specification is 75 watts for a 6 pin connector. It can handle more, but that's what it's spec'd to handle. and technically the 8 pin only has one additional ground wire because it has 3 supply lines.

HardOCP comes to mind?

The pricing is going to make or break them.

Well, everyone who is already disappointed does consider the only saving grace being price.

And yes, if it will cost $200 in Russia, i may even look over lack of working drivers and cop it anyways. Unless nV releases same stuff for same money.

Not really. The most sold GPUs are around 200ish range. This forum is the 1%. They are securing solid sales while also developing a GPU to go in the newer consoles, so even more money. And it does compete with nvidia, cuz nvidia has no new midrange card. They only have the gtx960 and 970 which will lower in price. the 480/x will be better then both at cheaper price.
