some other tidbits in there as well

To clarify this, the scaling from 1->2 GPUs in the dual RX 480 test we assembled is 1.83x. The OP was looking only at the lowest draw call rates when asking about the 51%. The single batch GPU utilization is 51% (CPU-bound), medium is 71.9% utilization (less CPU-bound) and heavy batch utilization is 92.3% (not CPU-bound). All together for the entire test, there is 1.83X the performance of a single GPU in what users saw on YouTube. The mGPU subsystem of AOTS is very robust
so one 8GB 480 is approx 1.83 times slower in AotS then what their CF result showed ? Where would that put it ? 390 or 390X level ?

It puts it about 10% faster than 970 in DirectX12.

So with all the talk of P10 being a $200 980, it might be more accurate to look at it as a $200 970.

That would be exciting, except brand new 970s have already been dipping to <$225. That's why I don't understand the excitement over Polaris. We're looking at an AMD branded GTX970 with a 10% discount.

I say this as a borderline AMD fanboy who's been using AMD CPUs and ATI GPUs since the 90s, so don't get me wrong.

if you don't mind the 3.5, then get the 970. it's available now.

I'm not seeing any right now, but Microcenter had them for $224.99 a few weeks ago. When the 1070 drops, I'd expect to see a lot of <$200 970s.

I don't recall previous gen pricing ever dropping much due to new generation release outside of maybe a sale. Sometimes the price goes up as time goes on especially as old stock dwindles. For them to clear out their stock, they will probably continue to sell old gen cards in pre built pcs to people who don't know better, without the premium mark-up of the new gen.

Possibly also by pressuring AIB partners to offer rebates, in which retailers still get their full margins.
