[VideoCardz] Rumour: AMD Radeon RX 480 specifications leaked - Page 9

There are rumors of Vega 10 launching in October, while the one launching in 2017 is Vega 11. Unlike Polaris, the 11 is the larger chip in this case.

We're arguing semantics. My point is that you cannot go to a store and pick one up.

I'm sitting here with a 970 and all my "upgrade" paths are sideways with AMD unless I want to get a new nVidia card for the ~$350 or so I spent on my current card.

AMD needs to offer nVidia users more than sideways "upgrades." That's how you get market share back.

I don't get why this is so hard for some people to understand. People who say that NVIDIA only has market share out of marketing power are kidding themselves.

This happened last time with Maxwell .Say you had a 290 or a 290x and you wanted to upgrade. What was the first option to come up? the 970 and the 980. It took AMD 10 months after the release of the 980 to conjure up a response and even that card was mediocre.

This is why AMD was hemorrhaging marketshare badly. Its hard to compete when you don't have anything to compete with.

As we speak NVIDIA is going to beat AMD to the punch again and the GPU AMD is releasing soon isn't even going to compete with the 1080 and the 1070.

Ill say what everyone here is thinking

P10 on the level of 390X/980+ for cheap price may be good for market sales (will also depend on 1060), but horrible for OC.net users who need more than 290X/390X level

thats how it is ...

everyone here hoped for a 1070/980Ti level P10

Exactly.
They are missing out on so many customers with Polaris 10 if its just another GTX 980 tier card. Most gamers already own 290X/970/980. For these its just a huge meh.
I dont think AMD wanted to only go for midrange either. They were forced to, but not sure how

So according to this rumour we are talking about 5.5 TFlops.

That means we are looking at either 2048 SP at ~1350 Mhz or at 2305 SP at 1200 Mhz
I am more inclined to think that if this is true then that is indeed a 2048@1350 and then we could expect a 2305@1400 that beats 1070

But then ofc after those other leaks that show both the C4 and C7 at 1266 could be just their top clocks and AMD to release the chip with lower clocks.
I do think if the cut down P10 can run 1266 the uncut should run higher correct? As it has been in most past generations.
However this will be too little jump to clocks of just around 20% from 28nm to 14nm LPP (not even LPE) compared to Nvidia's huge jump of 50%+ considering they jumped from 28nm to 16nm FinFET

20% would be borderline low.

P.S. Didn't AMD change their "Midrange" strategy and added "Performance" lately?
Performance would indeed hint a bigger P10 than this leak as his big brother.
.... Hope dies last frown.gif (and then performance + water cooling could end up at 400 US)
