[VideoCardz] AMD Radeon RX 480 to cost 199 USD - Page 60

They were talking about 2x 480s potentially being faster than a single 1080 in AOTS, while we all know that the DX12 CFX/SLI has been an issue and will continue being an issue. So those are pretty hollow promises.

Also if the 480 is going to give 6% performance in CFX over 1080, it means it will be most likely just around the 290/970 performance.
Also their presentation say 150W, which is the 1070 performance, so I don't get it.

So... there is pretty much nothing amazing in the 480 announcement. No high end GPU, nothing great in performance, only pretty much a price cut on the 290/380 performance bracket. They could just cut the price of the left over stocks of the 380 and get almost the same results.

So underwhelming... I was hoping for a 490x or something at 300$ with 980 ti performance.

You must have a real problem with $200 graphics cards.

For me it is always like that :

- Look at your budget
- Look what's the single best GPU you can get for that budget
- If budget is higher than the price of best single GPU then think about SLI/CF
- Consider in cost of power supply, PSU, CPU aswell because right now I simply couldn't put in a second card.

I would never buy 2x250$ cards if I have 500$ budget. I'd rather buy a GTX 1070 than 2xRX480.
The only time I'd consider SLI/CF is if I were doing a high end PC build with absolute high end cards and I yearn for more performance than the best single GPU can deliver. That has never happened and probably is never going to happen.

I don't wanna bother with SLI/CF issues, profiles missing, bad scaling. I'd rather have one card and slightly lower settings/framerate.

Let's wait and see what the future of DX12 and multiple GPU setups brings us. It may be as hit or miss as SLI/CF is right now in terms of game support, but the writing is on the wall. Those AFR/SFR setups and variants are going to be legacy soon enough.

I was to buy a GTX970, but seems like I'll need to wait a bit.

Benchmarks almost always release before the launch.

I though AMD might be game over when 1070/1080 was released, but AMD seems to be targeting mainstream and offering amazing performance for the dollar.

That's very true. This would be like Crysis coming out and being able to play it @ 1080p with a 6800 Ultra while still maintaining 50-60FPS.

I blame it on a combination of GPUs no longer doubling in performance every year and games just not being as hard to run.

This is why it is important to see what both companies have to offer. The mainstream makes more financial sense, but the high end market is where you get more buzz.

AMD's drivers have come a long way in the last year or two, a very long way. They are easily on par with Nvidia drivers at this point.
