I am not so sure if this will apply to GPUs

I believe that the duty was already zero for GPUs (and other computer components), at least if this site is to be believed. It should fall under HS code 8471.80.

I'm pretty passionate about the conversation since its completely marketing-focused and doesn't benefit end users in any way. Its actually causing folks to ignore a few really key developments within the API that benefit all users far more than ASync, from APUs all the way up to leading class GPUs.

Anyways, I'm going to remain out of the ASync conversation from here on out since its so full of FUD, trying to sift through it is impossible at this point. We are way too far down the rabbit hole....

When would people stop down playing the importance of "$250 + enthusiast" discreet gpu cards for Nvidia's business model? That is the majority of its business. Period. OEM has been in a decline for sometime now, and will continue to do so. Go ask the CEO or the CFO , if you are confused....

For me GCN shader extensions are way better and more important than Async at the moment. Many people asked them for years so they can simply trasnsfer shaders from the consoles to PC ecosystem.

http://gpuopen.com/gcn-shader-extensions-for-direct3d-and-vulkan/

Async has potential ( even Tiago from id said that they gained around 3-5 ms on consoles with Async and far cry primal around 2ms which is important) but we need to move to compute shaders instead of pixel shaders. And this is a lot of work .

And this is EXACTLY what I was referring to and the article I'm actually working on this weekend. thumb.gif

So where is the $299 card from AMD? Or was this it and it came in at $199 instead?

Speculation is that there is an uncut Polaris 10 with 2560 SPs, that's likely the $299 card.

Be a little surprising to see cards at E3 before the NDA expires. How would they advertise clock speeds, etc if the NDA is in force? And if they intend to show cards at E3, why not launch it then?

I was thinking that as well. If it's included in that then it's all good then.
