I'm leaning towards buying two of these if they work well in Crossfire. I haven't had AMD cards since I had two 5870s in Crossfire. Like you, I wasn't a fan of the drivers or CCC.

I also want to finally get off these two GTX 680s and get something better, I could get an Nvidia card, but I feel they've been overpricing their cards ever since the GTX 6xx series, and I don't want to reward them for that. Up until this current generation of cards, it hasn't been worth it for me to upgrade from a price to performance ratio. The 7xx and 9xx series were overpriced IMO, especially in Australia.

The hardware they produce, is great. If they could stream line the CCC and fix basically crossfire as a whole, I would be all over it.

My friend has the strix version of the 390x 8gb HBM. The card is great, and runs quite cool. It is truly a great piece of hardware. But when i went over to set everything up though his 1440p monitor, and the $1,000 receiver to his 4k 80inch, it was a horrendous PITA. nothing would communicate properly, HDCP was difficult and unstable. we ended up just running a separate fiber cable for the sound, and the TV had to be run on a dedicated HDMI. Even then the drivers would not recognize the resolution of the TV. had to create a custom entry, and that took 3 or 4 tries before it stuck.

Before anyone chimes in on that, I brought my rig over as a test subject to be sure. the install was 100% seamless. Plug and play.

When he bought the second one. I was really upset with the result. the performance jump was a lot less than I was expecting/hoping for. Even with the 1440p monitor I was surprised. This isn't even my hardware and I was a little more disappointed then he was. If ALL of that wasn't an issue from the very start when he purchased the card, I would have bought the same card.

But I was close to pulling the trigger on a similar theater set up. 2 1440p monitor, 60" 4K, all run through the Harmon Kardon receiver that i have.

But I digress. Great hardware, great pricing, and really cool innovations happening over at AMD.

But I will wait to research the support issues I already have with the software/drivers. I really hope it gets a rehab. CCC has been remedial for 10+
years in my opinion.

If you have been with nVidia for awhile , , , try one 480 first. it should match or be faster than your current cards.

This is what he has. I had to verify with him. I don't know the Radeon line up too well.

Well it would be kind of normal knowing the R9 390X doesn't support 4k60p through HDMI since it doesn't have HDMI 2.0... I know I had an R9 390x and I have a Samsung Curved 4K JU6700 65"... it was a pain to get working and I gave up... got myself a pair of GTX 980s instead...

The AMD equivalent of the 1080 & 1070 is months away and we consumers are getting shafted like never before. This is truly agonizing to see mid-range cards to be priced like this mad.gif!

And it seems the R9 Fury and Fury X lack HDMI 2.0 as well as it's been reported here on techpowerup http://www.techpowerup.com/213575/amd-fiji-silicon-lacks-hdmi-2-0-support
and here as well http://www.overclock.net/t/1560814/ocuk-amd-radeon-r9-fury-series-doesnt-have-hdmi-2-0-port-limited-to-1-4
so it's impossible to get 4k60p working through HDMI no matter the card used, it's a GPU/architecture problem that can't be fixed. Hope amd fixes it with the RX 480...

I was more or less saying that for DRKreiger after he said he got a 4k display working great over HDMI and an R9 Fury, not that I don't believe him, but it must really have been bad to watch anything on that TV... I had to get rid of my R9 390X and get 2 GTX 980s because 30hz made me want to shoot myself in the head... It really sucks on a 4k TV... to the point I had to watch everything in 1080p until my GTX 980s arrived... applaud.gif

The 390 didn't have HDCP 2.2. Things should get a lot better with the next revision. He could have had the same issue with the 980 or 970 (even the TITAN X or 980 Ti), to be quite honest. The 960 was the first GPU in that line to bring HDCP 2.2 into the fold. Which is ironic considering the market that would actually want that was reduced down to second PC / HTPC owners.
